I'm a Fairfield resident. How do I get this started and how much would it cost me, approximately?

Look a few post up. I didn't add how much training is because it varies.

These are approximates. I'm not going to bother getting the exact amounts, but they are within $10 plus or minus.

            Sheriff's Permit Fee - $100
            California DOJ Fee - $100
            Training (Dave Adams) - $150
Training ammo (200 rounds primary gun, 50 backup gun) - $100 depending on caliber, type, etc.
New pistol (there's no way you can celebrate getting your new permit without a sweet new pistol or revolver ) - budget at least $1000 (not required, but a good excuse to buy a new gun!)

So, the minimum expense outlay with Dave doing the training (he does an awesome job) is roughly $450 or so. I shoot .45acp, so that was about where I was on cost. 9mm or .38 Special would be much, much cheaper.

Frasier Baptist requires much less ammo from what I hear, but doesn't spend a lot of time on the range, so your ammo use would be much less. The new gun may be optional, although it would be a shame not to get a new piece when you have a valid excuse to buy one...

Regardless of what you do, it's totally worth the time and trouble.

Average time seems to run from 4 months to 7 months. Most guys seem to get it done in about 5 or so. It just depends on the Sheriff's workload, staffing, holidays, vacations, your background, and how fast the department gets inquiry returns from the background search and LiveScan. The time is going to come and go regardless of what you do, you might as well get the ball rolling as soon as possible.

            I don't think it's nice,...you laughing.
You see, my mule don't like people laughing.
He gets the crazy idea you're laughing at him.
Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to,
I might convince him that you really didn't mean it.

Got my livescan done on the 17th, so now back to waiting. And about that "exact amount" for the money orders...Take heed! Apparently I had old info that showed $95 instead of $93 and they couldn't take the MO for $95. Deputy Grant was great, though. Took my prints anyway and pointed me to the nearest bank to go get a corrected MO to bring right back. Very nice!

457F, I would suggest you call Catharine again. That seems a long time to wait, although, like others have said, usually no news is good news.

BTW, for those of you care, "Catharine" is the correct spelling of her name

More expensive than some, less expensive than others. Can you place a price on safety? I was happy that the fees were much less than they used to be, having been brought into line with the CA DOJ standards.

And in many areas of CA you can't get one at any price. I too don't like the costs associated with it but I'm grateful to be able to get an LTC when so many counties won't issue.

It's unbelievable that our 2nd Amendment right is being monitored. I'm not saying untrained people should be able to carry because then it would turn into an "Old West" type scenario.

Not neccesarily. The argument that uncontrolled gun possession by untrained people would result in a "wild west" scenario has been shown to be completely unfounded and inaccurate.

"Constitutional Carry" states that allow any qualified person (no disqualifying criminal record) to carry include Arizona, Wyoming, Alaska, and Vermont. They haven't experienced any outlandish wild west type scenarios, but rather the opposite has occurred. Crime has dropped significantly, and people are aware that doing something uncivil or stupid might be seen in an unfavorable manner by those law abiding citizens who carry for protection.

Anyone can carry concealed with or without a permit in those states, yet the only change has been a decrease in crime. This should be the template for the rest of the country.

Yeah.....I have a few friends/acquaintances that live in Arizona.
I guess, if you are an adult in "good standing", you are free to carry. No big Hoop-Lah to got through.
In California, there seems to be a guilty until proven innocent slant on carry.
