    Sheriff’s candidate Kevin Jensen is making regular posts on FB. You guys need to monitor those and his campaign website to see what, if anything, he saa as us about CCWs.

    No, I won’t do this, I don’t live in Santa Clara county.

    Civil Grand Jury Examining Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office: Sources
    By Damian Trujillo • Published October 8, 2021

    Video;

    The troubles keep mounting for Santa Clara County's embattled sheriff.

    NBC Bay Area has learned a civil grand jury has been empaneled to look into the office of Sheriff Laurie Smith and how the department is being run.

    Sources tell NBC Bay Area the civil grand jury met for the first time on Wednesday and issued subpoenas for a number of people to testify about the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office.

    Some of the sheriff's top brass have already been indicted by a criminal grand jury. Now, the civil grand jury is taking a look at the sheriff's office.

    "In a civil grand jury, you're investigating a government agency. A county or city agency to make sure they're doing their job the way they should be doing it," said Jaime Leanos, a legal analyst.

    The Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors made the recommendation for a civil grand jury in August after issuing a vote of no confidence on Smith.

    Lukewarm sounds wayyyy better than where we currently are which is somewhere between absolute zero and the plains of the ice planet Hoth.

    Edit to add: And keep in mind that a sheriff who is willing to actually have a process can and has led to counties becoming more liberal with CCW issuance. All it takes is for someone sensible to start doing it, even if its a little at first, and they quickly realize there's no reason to be afraid of processing and issuing permits.

    Last time Jensen ran, I was told by the DSA that he would "at least have a process." Sounds lukewarm to me, but let's hear what he says. Glad I left SC County.

    Here’s a KRON4 news article with video announcing Jensen as a candidate. No mention of CCWs though, but we shouldn’t be surprised since most people are clueless about them.

    When you look at the CA CCW GC map you’ll see that half of Santa Clara county’s neighboring counties readily issue. (Stanislaus, Merced and San Benito readily issue whereas Alameda, San Mateo and Santa Cruz don’t.) If San Joaquin is considered neighboring that would be a majority/most that readily issuing. All Smith has to say is she’s going to bring her issuance closer to her neighboring counties.

    Instead, currently she is worse than any of her neighboring counties. Just getting to Yellow (employment or business ownership risks or personal threats) would be a major improvement.

    Oh, well, you must be qualified to be Sheriff then. Total nonsense. I'm sure the Silicon Valley commie lib rats will eat it up though.

    Kevin Jensen has updated his FB page for the 2022 campaign. I didn’t notice any CCW info.

    His campaign website is: https://www.kevinjensen4sheriff.com/ I was unable to find any mention of CCWs there either.

    The Patch;

    As Sheriff Laurie Smith battles investigations and demands for resignation, she must now also face a former opponent who wants her job.

    The applicants good cause reasons aren't listed. The screen shots for the issued ccw's just show mostly "self defense", "work related personal security", some are blacked out. Obviously the applicant put more than that on the application, but that part is also blacked out.

    On FB I could only find his 2014 campaign group webpage. He may just update that for his 2022 campaign. We’ll have find out his current position on acceptable GC for CCWs.

    There’s another challenger for sheriff:

    It was in the wake of that referral that Christine Nagaye, a sergeant with two decades of experience in the sheriff’s office, revealed her own plans to run for Smith’s job.

    “First and foremost, my pledge is to bring honesty, transparency and integrity back to the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Department,” Nagaye said in a statement.
    From: https://www.eastbaytimes.com/2021/09...-a-second-run/

    We’ll have to find out her position on CCWs and GC too. I could not find a FB group for her campaign yet.

    (No, I don’t live in Santa Clara county.)
