My fbi cleared same day. Ca took about a month. Firearms took almost two months to clear

I spoke to the officer processing applications early this afternoon to ask about any LiveScan updates. When he checked the system, he said that no results showed up when searching me by name. I asked whether he received any response from the DOJ LiveScan team and he said he'd check later and reach out to me.

A few hours later, I got the approval email, so I assume they either found a hardcopy of my LiveScan results somewhere or got some info off the DOJ team. It didn't specify which set of LiveScan results they finally got, so I can't yet say whether it's worth doing a second LiveScan.

It's weird how inconsistent the LiveScan timelines are. I heard rumors somewhere that having a COE might delay you? For those who received training approval or their CCWs already, can any of you confirm whether you had a COE?
I've had a COE for many years and my CCW livescan cleared in about a week. I did a livescan for something else about a year ago and that cleared in about two weeks. So I don't think a COE causes any kind of delays.

Have a COE - no extraordinary delays to livescan processing on my timeline (7 days processing).

Got the CCW. The CCW officer is very nice and responsive. But it is him alone and the boss won't allocate more officers on it because of xxxxxx (use your common sense). Here is my timeline for reference.

    Feb/16/2023 scheduled an interview
    Apr/11/2023 interviewed at SCSO
    Apr/19/2023 cleared for psych eval
Apr/26/2023 done first part of psych eval
Apr/27/2023 done second part of psych eval
    May/02/2023 cleared for livescan
    May/12/2023 cleared for training
    May/26/2023 CCW approved
    Jun/29/2023 picked up CCW

The whole process is rather smooth. I guess it is because back then it is still early and not many people applied.

6 weeks is not unheard of for livescan. I've heard from people where it took them 3 months to clear.

Anyway I got my call today and picked up my permit. Looks like they are back on track after an unfortunate tragedy.

    Here is my timeline:
    2/16/23: Submitted application in Permitium.
4/12/23 early AM: Interview at SCSO.
5/10/23: Received email to schedule Psych eval.
    5/16/23: Psych eval written test.
    5/16/23: LiveScan.
    5/18/23: LiveScan DOJ/FBI/Firearms all completed.
    5/19/23 Psych eval 1:1 interview.
5/26/23: Saw someone in the forum mentioned about post interview survey form, which I never received. Immediately emailed LEPS about that.
5/30/23 AM: LEPS replied and attached a survey form. Turns out it is not just a survey, but a consent to release psych eval result to SCSO so this is an important step. Singed the form and emailed to LEPS.
5/30/23 PM: Received email to proceed with LiveScan. I emailed SCSO that I already did on 5/16.
5/31/23: SCSO replied saying that they only cleared me from Psych eval, but have not received my LiveScan result.
6/23/23: Emailed SCSO again about the LiveScan status.
6/29/23: SCSO replied and said they have not yet received my LiveScan result from DOJ.

I really appreciate the officer in charge of CCW actually replied to both of my emails. But I am surprise 6 weeks after my LiveScan they still have not received it. Earlier there was a confusion about the LiveScan form regarding the ORI number, applicant type, etc. I triple checked with the LivenScan operator that he indeed entered CA0430000 as the ORI number. At this point I wonder if the LiveScan result was actually lost somewhere. I am thinking to waste another $100 tomorrow to do the LiveScan again just to be sure.
SJPD took 3 months to clear my livescan. He only stated "processing background returns from other agencies" as the cause of delay.

Don't know about SCC. I interviewed on 3/28 and still stuck on psyche eval. Completed release multiple times and had LEPS confirm my report was sent. SCC is an absolute **** show. I predicted this a few months back as people were super excited about interviews thinking they could get their licenses soon.

If anyone is looking to sharpen up their skills before their CCW training (or even after), we're holding our first dryfire fundamentals class at our Foster City training center on Saturday, July 8th from 9am-10:30am. We'll be focusing on the very basics of foundational marksmanship and CCW skills. More details at:

Just to reiterate, the NCR paper permit you get in addition to the plastic ID card is laminate safe. Went through my laminator without issue.
