After months of quite literally zero progress or communication, I sent the CCW team an email yesterday and surprisingly received a response first thing this morning. FWIW, this was their reply:

At the time of your interview, your background check was not completed. This is not your fault nor anyone else's fault. Our records division is getting an overwhelming number of backgrounds they need to check due to the high volume of applicants. Your background has already been checked, but there was a little delay. As of now, you are pending your psychological evaluation. Once our vendor gets to your name, they will reach out to you via email to schedule an appointment.

Reading between the lines, it appears that "jumping the gun" and getting those on-site interviews out of the way in April for many of us just changed the bottleneck to stuff on their backend doing the background investigations, which might explain why the actual interview dates have no bearing on the sequence of names being sent to LEPS for psych examination.

Ultimately, we are still at the mercy of the SCCSO (intentional) lack of resources being devoted to clearing the CCW backlog.

Working as intended to slow walk this entire process of giving permissions slips for civil liberties. Imagine if registering to vote took this long? Hilarious.

Congratulations to everyone so far!

I am currently applying for a modification to my permit. It’s a different process compared to applying for a CCW, but will see how long it may take.
Good reminder for everyone is to make sure everything and the firearms you want listed on your application is set and good before you do the training qualifications.

Training Class Date: 9th Sept 2023 Instructor / School: Saber Tactics
Uploaded Proficiency form and certificate to Permitium: 12th Sept
Emailed SOCCW informing completion of Proficiency test: 16 Sept
Received approval: 18th Sept !!!
Final payment made: 18th Sept
Emailed SOCCW about the payment and scheduling pickup: 18th Sept
SOCCW called to schedule: 21st Sept morning, missed. Deputy left vm.
SOCCW called again: 21st Sept evening, scheduled pickup 22nd Yeah!!!!
picked up: 22nd, took about 10 mins to take photo, sign and get the card.

Congrats. 7 months door to door almost to the day...... given I'm still caught behind the mid-April "appointment clinic" date, I'll probably be lucky if I can finish this prior to 2024 at current course and speed.... we shall see.

After I uploaded the class certificate and the CCW Firearms Proficiency form to Permitium, I sent an email to SHF.SOCCW@shf.sccgov.org letting them know that the documents are uploaded and that I am ready to submit final payment. Maybe this helped speed things up? I received an email from Permitium 2 hours after I sent the email, so I would give that a try if you haven?t already.

Highly recommend doing the Livescans early if you?re confident you will make it through the whole process.

General reminder to keep bugging SCSO and keep up the pressure. With this new SB2 stuff going on, they?re incentivized to slow down and sand bag the process even more than they have been. Keep on the pressure and hopefully we can keep things moving as much as we can

I don?t think you should jump any steps without waiting for the go ahead. I believe you are just causing more delays and confusion especially when things like lives can get sent to sheriff?s mailbox cluttering up for others and they have no record to proceed.

I feel confident about passing. For the Live Scan form, is "Sgt. Russell Davis" still the correct POC or is it "Felicia Segura" now? I do want to expedite this process but don't want to cause even more delays.

Same question here. did anyone get a recent answer on this since felicia segura took over?
