You brought up some good points and I just wanted to make sure, so I could get an idea of how some were approaching the process/maybe streamline it for SJSO as much as possible . I have a couple of co-workers who have gone through the process and seems most have been approved. One is waiting 9+ months for an answer (hopefully sometime this week).

As far as I can remember I don't have any interactions with LEO's other than the tickets but I'm pretty sure they are all over the 5 year mark (going to DMV to get a 10 year report).

Other than that my application is pretty vanilla, at least I hope. I will continue to update whenever possible so other SJ CGNer's get an idea of the time frame.

I figured I would give it a go. Have my interview on Mar 16th, 2015 (called last week of Feb). Figured I would post and sub to this thread to keep up to date on the process of most appliers. I'm in no rush to carry and sounds like they are not also! :P

I just wanted to get clarification on a couple things:

I no longer need the transmittal and cover letter that is provided in the OP?

Can I just bring exact amounts of cash? Instead of a MO or check? Or would I be better off with checks ready to go?

Is it an issue that my application is pretty much full of blanks and No's? I cannot recall anything that should pop up in my BG and all my LEO contacts were pretty much for speeding tickets that were more than 5 years ago. DMV record only shows up to 3 years I believe, I gave my insurance a call to see if they have anything listed. They have nothing listed against me and I have been a customer for 10+ years.

Should I make copies of my DL and employee handbook (relevant sections) and turn those in ahead of time? Would save time for them and hoping processing of my app.

I had a bunch of other questions but have forgotten them as I wrote this post... :P

Congrats on starting the process. I think most everyone (even those like myself who have already been through it and received a CCW) would be interested to see how the latest applicant process goes...specifically, how long it is taking for newer/2015 appointments. To answer some of your questions, based on my own experience:

- NO, you do not need the cover letter from the OP.

- emphasis on EXACT cash if you decide to go that route--they do not have any means of providing change back to you in the office. My personal suggestion--do a personal check, it's just easier, plus you have paper trail for your records (they do also provide a written receipt too, but I like to have a check carbon copy).

- Fill out the application as thorough as possible. LEO interaction outside of 5 years can be addressed during your in-person interview with the detective when you turn in your application. Honesty is the best policy.

- I did not need a copy of my DL during my initial interview, they just took my DL and did it themselves. Save yourself the paper. Additionally, I would have a copy of your Employee firearm policy on hand, but (unless they ask for it), it's not something I was required to provide until after I received my conditional approval phone call (8 months AFTER my appointment). And it was something I was just able to email to the investigator...so again, save yourself the paper.

Anyone ever been called to talk with Sherriff Moore himself? My uncle was called last week to setup an appointment for the Sherriff to interview him. His first interview was May 2014, called for an update February 2015,and last week called to talk with the sherrif and still waiting for his approval. I found this a little odd based on everyone's post here on this forum.

Called today for update. Its been over a month since I sat down with Sheriff and to my surprise I got a call back later in the day from the sheriff himself. He say I should her back by next week. Wish me luck all .

Update: I had my appointment May 8 and got my approval call the week leading up to Christmas. I had JUST had a baby a couple days before and was a little distracted to continue the process or ask questions. I did my training last weekend now that I'm all healed up and am turning in my certificate and $76 today during their hours they have available for this. Anyone know what they do after that? I turn in my money and training, I was already approved. Do they just send it to me? Is there another interview?

My background check went well as I have a clean record and it still took from May 8 to late December.
