Agree with Sapper, but waiting on the DOJ is driving me NUTS, in a 2a friendly kind of way

Self defense is the ONLY thing you need to put down. Keep it simple.

As said above livescan is running 4 months and longer. From interview date to issue date 6-7 months is a a good estimate.

The hard part is getting the initial appointment.

Self defense is ok, at least it worked for me. Wouldn't put anything else down as it might make more problems than it solves. At least that is what I was told. Am currently at six months and should be done in October sometime. Big holdup is Doj livescan clearance. Four to six months is what they say it might take. Recently people have been getting cleared in just over four months, which is where I am at.

Trying to buy a house in the Sacramento area right now. Looking forward to getting out of Marin County. Is the consensus that it's taking most people about 6 months from initial app to permit issuance?

Also, anybody wish a clean record been denied when using "self defense" as good cause reason?

There are some other "anomalies" on the website.

As long as you realize the language creating this particular confusion was issued to clarify previous confusion, you have a chance or retaining some sanity when they "clarify" it.

This on the SSD website had me questioning that "[training and qualification requirements are only good for two years, so by adhering to this schedule you will remain closer in compliance]."

    Justin15w is correct.

Your permit is valid for two years from the date of issuance. CA PEN 26220: http://leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/fa...ctionNum=26220
26220. (a) Except as otherwise provided in this section and in subdivision (c) of Section 26210, a license issued pursuant to Section 26150 or 26155 is valid for any period of time not to exceed two years from the date of the license.
Training dates have nothing to do with permit expiration.

SSD wants your training certs reasonably close to the issuance date simply to get a warm fuzzy feeling that you've done something recently.

I train monthly in some really great classes and my instructor will re-run the quals at the end of class if needed. If I put that training date closer to my issuance appt then my permit will last longer than if I did the training say four months earlier.

I can't see how this could be wrong as now I have far more training that what is required. The training is not cheap, but it is putting me in a position to know I will always be able to make the right decisions if the SHTF.
From my understanding, the permit is valid until the expiration date on the card. But some people time their training to overlap with the two-year validity period of their training certificate (I.e. scheduling renewal appointment six weeks before permit expiration). This allows them to use the same training certificate that they used on their initial permit.

The training certificates have nothing to do with the expiration of the permit.
