Some IAs have permitted SSE pistols on CCW permits, others have not.

This appears to be a policy shift by Sac Sheriff (possibly directed by CA DOJ).

A friend of mine has been waiting for the new system to open up, and he exclusively has SSE guns on his current permit, so he'll be reaching out to Sac Sheriff for clarification.

First, this is Sacramento County. it does not hold for any other jurisdiction.

SSEs have always been allowed by Sheriff Jones, but the new process outlined on the website says the guns cannot be registered as a "single shot".

(For the new folks: SSE stands for "Single Shot Exemption", an option no longer available for us to obtain guns not on the roster).

New system appears to have a number of changes:
1.

Be sure that each firearm you are listing on your Concealed Carry Weapon license is registered to you or your spouse/registered domestic partner. The firearm cannot be registered to any other family member. ".

-That takes out pre-2000 owned guns, unless you register them.

-No SSE guns unless you clear the registration.

*But, you may now list up to 5 guns, and it appears you may modify the license solely to add/change guns. (not yet tested).

I understand that when issued, this CCW license belongs to the Sacramento County Sheriff and is issued as a privilege; it is not a right

3. Payment appears to only be through credit card (with additional processing fees), so money orders appear to be no longer accepted.

New Issuance Costs:

Permit Amount: $113.00
Credit Card Fees: $3.69
Convenience Fee: $4.00
Total Amount: $120.69 USD

Renewal Costs:

Permit Amount: $77.00
Credit Card Fees: $2.65
Convenience Fee: $4.00
Total Amount: $83.65 USD

4. There is no provision to finish the application without submitting payment (No "save and return later" option).

I noticed on the online form for initial and renewal application that if you put down you want a CCW to defend yourself and your family, you must write down specific threats made against you or your family and the agency or agencies reported to. When I got my first permit all you had to say was it was to defend yourself and your family. Why the change and any other suggestions for reason for renewal?

That's the standard form developed by the state.

A lot has changed over the years, and some IAs (Sac Sheriff) don't require specifics in this area.

"Appointments have been filled for the remainder of the year, but you may continue to check in case there are any cancellations. Additionally, we are in the process of upgrading our computer system to more efficiently handle appointments and renewals. We will provide additional details as we have them about the new appointment system. We hope to have the new appointment system up and running in January of 2017. We will temporarily be extending our renewal window to allow CCW holders with a renewal date between October 18, 2016 and February 28, 2017 to renew beyond the 60 day window."
