Yes, Correct. It has to be the caliber of the gun it was "purchased" as. Im not sure if the sheriff wants to prevent ppl from doing mods by changing calibers or just make it easier to track... dunno.

Ok.... question for those of you who have RECENTLY qualified at Ben Clark.

Does the range supply the ammo for shooting or do I.

Sorry if this has been covered in the past, didn't see it when I did a search.

I qualified last month at Ben Clark. You supply the ammo.

You will fire each gun until empty three (3) times. But each time, you will only load a maximum of six rounds. Thus, you generally need 18 rounds per gun. If the gun only holds five rounds (like a J-frame revolver), then you only fire 15 rounds for that gun.

Also, it doesn't need to be expensive defense ammo. Cheap training fodder is fine. I used FMJ rounds in my .45ACP pistols, and .38 special round nosed lead bullet rounds in my .357 revolver. I've been told that even reloads are fine.

They do provide the targets and staples, though.

Go straight ahead to the range after parking and walking through the gate. Do not walk into a class in session in the building to the right like I did...

To elaborate a little further... There is a whiteboard on the wall next to the classroom and it will say what bay number is for CCW qualification and other things scheduled for that day. On the way in through the gate, look at the board on the wall and proceed to the appropriate bay.

The last time I was down there they had different ROs. The many times Ive been there in the past its always been the retired guys. No complaints just different.

                      - One thing I have noticed the last few times Ive gone down there is that the box of body armor is getting smaller and smaller, the groups get larger and larger. Invest in some body armor or plate carrier. Last yr I went to qual, I was the only guy that didnt bring his own armor. The ROs sent me on a scavenger hunt. Luckily I found some. This most recent time (3 months ago) I was the only one with armor. People were having a hard time finding stuff that fit.

Yes, Every time I've been there to qualify the ROs instruct ppl to put it on. You can either use the old stuff they provide or wear your own. I acquired a couple sets of nice kevlar level IIA. If you have the extra money its worth it IMOP. If you have a plate carrier vest you can use that too. Just be careful of the spawl ... hehe . The most recent visit down to Ben Clark the box o bullet proof vest were pretty hammered. XXl and Xl are pretty hard to find. If your a small feller you can take your pick.

They did not require me to wear armor. I think that requirement may be for officers qualifying, not for civilian CCW applicants.

Really? The 7 or 8 times I've been down there I've always had to wear kevlar. When was this? 3 months ago when I shot there, everyone that wanted to qual was told to put on armor.

Last month, on the 12th if I recall correctly. I was not asked to wear armor, nor were several others. One or two guys were required to put on armor just as I was leaving. I assumed that they had to wear armor because they were LE, but that was just an assumption.
