Interested in current experience with timing of renewals.

I submitted everything 1/10/23 and as of today have heard nothing back. No particular rush, but on my first renewal, they went way over 90 days and i had no permit for several weeks.

Like everyone else is pointing out, my interview was originally scheduled for 11/3 and now got pushed up to 4/24. Doing my training and live scan next weekend at Evan's Gun World.

From the Orange County Sheriff’s Landing Page:

-New applicants must complete an 8-16 hour course.
-Renewal applicants must complete a 4 hour course.
-All listed firearms must be inspected to ensure it is in a safe, legal, and operable condition.
-Applicant must complete a live fire course for every firearm listed on the permit.
-Training/inspection(s) must be completed at an approved training provider.
-A list of Training Providers can be downloaded below, under Related Files.
-CCW’s will not be issued until the training is complete.

I respectfully disagree. It does hurt, both on principal and cost, because the cost will be double now and it is more red tape that CA is implementing to stop us from realizing our rights.
An 8 hour course still meets the requirements. The training course must be a minimum of 8 hours and a maximum of 16 hours for new applicants and only 4 hours for renewals. Some providers may offer 8 hour courses and some may offer 16 hour courses and some may offer both. Either will meet the requirements. The 16 hour courses will obviously offer more training but will cost more as well. Some applicants may prefer the additional training of a 16 hour course but if not, an 8 hour course is offered by many providers as well.

Per state law, training must be no less than 8 hours and up to 16 hours.
    Depends on your training provider.

Prior to the change in law, it was always 16 hours.

I submitted my app in September and my appt is in May if you interested in my timeline.
