Good to hear, please keep us updated once you compete the classes and submit that cert. At least before you would have your license within a day or two of completing the class depending on availability.Comment

Applied August 3rd. Didn't hear back from anyone until yesterday which ended up being an impromptu interview. Interviewer said next step is they send it up the chain to the lieutenant for approval or rejection and that they will contact me with information about approved courses to take. Interviewer couldn't give me a firm date on when that would be however. The interviewer mentioned they now have 5 staff working through the inundation of applications which keep coming in. I cant imagine what the workload is like.
Looks like around a 9 month wait from application to interview.Last edited by drinnird; 04-19-2023, 9:56 AM.Comment

Formal questions were about marijuana use, arrested for assault or anything related, using medications which influence motor and cognitive functions, if you've been in any verbal or physical altercations recently.
Informal background questions centered around if my wife and I got along, how I am with coworkers, reason for wanting a ccw, if I have had one, if I have had any training in firearms, how many kids I have etc.
The interviewer was a good guy, and shared some helpful perspective on firearms in general. We talked about freedom week, caliber, micro 9s, and efficiency with firearms. He knew his stuff and I kind of wanted to take a class with him haha. He apparently trains military people there too.
But then again, they could still deny meLast edited by drinnird; 04-19-2023, 10:14 AM.Comment

It was actually really great, done by apple facetime (since he had an iphone). Informal yet professional. At first you feel like you're in an interview, but once you loosen up it just flows. I think the interview is meant to get a feel for who you are and if you're in any situation which may warrant them being hesitant in issuing you a CCW.

I wish you good luck with the process.Comment

I should probably clarify, that the question about "need" was just to elaborate a bit more about the reason that was specified at time of application.Comment

Our CCW process is still subjective here, but it is one step closer to being an objective process.
Looking at your experience of how your interviewer was very aligned with you and your gun views, it reminds me of how interrogators get close to their subjects to lower barriers so the subject more easily free flows info and might reveal too much by accident.Comment

Good points, I see how what you mentioned could happen as well. I suppose we really do just need to see the IA as trying to do whats best for the county with weeding out those who may be unnecessarily combative (which may extend to the outside world), and then trying to use as many interrogative skills they can, to find out what's lurking beneath the surface. Hopefully they can deny those who might pose a threat to the general population...but I suppose that gets into the whole who deserves what and who gets to choose...which is a bit more murky.
It'd sure be nice to just tell them, "because I want to," and not feel like you will risk your application. There was another poster in another county recently that was giving attitude to the IA about info being requested but was not legally required. In so pushing back on the IA, that OP got denied. Our CCW carrying is still a privilege here, unfortunately and we have to be on our best behaviour.
