I believe in the 2nd Amendment of the Constitution. People under the law are entitled to protection and self-defense. Additionally, I do not think this right should only be provided to the few, the elite, or to those with access to power. This is an equity issue and for far too long, people in our county have been denied this right. I intend as Sheriff to bring us into compliance with adjoining counties, (Sacramento, Solano, San Joaquin) that good cause and establishment for such cause is personal protection or self-defense.

Good Cause- Proof that good cause exists for the issuance. Personal protection or self-defense is sufficient to establish good cause.

On the down side, I see all applicants will have to have a psychological evaluation. Other than than, YAY!

Its the same thing the Monterey Co sheriff did: accept SD = GC (taking the county to Dark Green), because he does not mind Good Guys with guns, but add Psych Eval to make sure you really are a GG (emotionally stable). IIRC the Monterey sheriff dropped that requirement after 3 or 4 years and there’s been no problems since.

Most of us will pass the Psych Eval ($150 max fee for multiple choice exams with a review/interview by psychologist), whereas most of us cannot pass Livingston’s GC requirement.

If a psych eval is the price you have to pay for SD = GC, it’s worth it.

ETA: by law, a Psych Eval cannot be required for Renewal without justification.

I believe San Benito County also requires psych test, lots of folks went through that process say it is a scam, they hire a lunatic doctor who just denies everyone.

I want to be sure about what we are looking at here. Is this the candidate's public position and promises on concealed carry?

If so, I'll take it and he has my vote.

Trying to take down a sitting CA sheriff is very difficult. But Villanueva did it in LA last time, so it can be done. Kids could even help out by volunteering and may be able to get school credit (“Civics”).

I'll be trying to convince everyone I know. We don't have that long.

Only one CGNer got denied. They appealed, got reviewed by another psychologist and got approved.

People will have to get the word out to shooting ranges (Richmond, United Sportsmen, Livermore). shooting clubs (PPC, IPSC/USPDA, IDPA, skeet/trap, sporting clay, waterfowl and game hunters), local gun shops/stores, NRA Member Councils (Richmond, Antioch, San Ramon), etc. There’s a TON of work to do! Contact Ben to help him out. I have!
