Alameda Co. CCW interview
When I asked for an update, I was told I was #153 on the list and my interview was exactly 4 months after my application which was on June 25th. (10/25 interview date)
I was informed at the interview that I may hear more in about 4 weeks or around 11/25.

Because Ahern sincerely believes in the “police state” (where only the police are armed). That’s why he’s a RINO. He doesn’t believe in a preexisting individual RKBA that’s merely protected, not created, by the 2A of the US Constitution.

They only issue if you are a criminal who promises to pop shots off nightly. The only way to expedite the process is to file lawsuits. Every county is giving the same talking points to those who have applied.Leave a comment:

Given that he's a lame duck, my assumption is that either 1) Ahern genuinely believes in his policies, or 2) the policies themselves have become institutionalized and there is too much internal friction to change them. I have a hard time believing that Sheriff-Elect Sanchez will change much, but I'd be happy to be wrong, and I think ACSO is due for a change anyway.Leave a comment:

Ahern is has been a lame duck since primary, so why he isn't issuing at all? He has nothing to lose right now, retirement just weeks away. This guy is sure stubborn POS.Leave a comment:

I'm not saying Ahern was worth a damn. But I am saying be careful what you wish for. An extreme example might be saying that this Hitler guy HAS to be better than Kaiser Wilhelm.Leave a comment:

You do realize 42 out of 50 states are Shall Issue (and 25 of those are Constitutional Carry)? Not all of those SI states are Red states.
Ahern, like Plummer, Livingston (probably Rupf too), Smith, Brown and McDonnell(sp?) are/were all police statist RINOs who deserve what they get. They don’t believe in our RKBA or the 2A. Ahern learned the old political lesson that you can’t make friends of your enemies (liberals) by making enemies of your (conservative) friends (by not liberally issuing CCWs). Better we have an enemy we can wholeheartedly fight than a “friend” that keeps law abiding Ala Co residents defenseless.
Gore liberalized CCWs without political repercussions. Same thing with Villanueva. The few people that care about CCWs care about if they’re being issued. The vast majority who don’t care about CCWs don’t care if they’re being restrictively or liberally being issued: it’s just not on their radar.
Ahern can’t play hero when the average Joe or Jane are armed too.Last edited by Paladin; 11-08-2022, 11:25 PM.Leave a comment:

You realize that she's a screaming liberal, while Ahern was a political moderate who did what he had to do to say in office, right? The new Sheriff will probably consider it a failure of moral character if your pronouns aren't "They/Them."Leave a comment:

Ahern has only ~8 weeks left as sheriff. Just ignore him as he has a hissy fit over CCWs.
The new sheriff has no interest in maintaining the Plummer-Ahern status quo. The last thing she’ll want is needless lawsuit over CCWs. (See Sheriff Smith in Santa Clara.) But give her a few months to settle in as sheriff and to implement her new policy.Leave a comment:

Oakland PD for sure does not issue permits, that is one of the worst cities around the East Bay in general.Leave a comment:

For oakland, and across Alameda (with potentially Sunol being an exception, albeit i haven't heard it was, ACSO issues for us.The current Oakland police chief Leronne Armstrong is a well known anti-gunner. He famously stated that he doesn't want business owners to arm themselves against robberies. He stated he doesn't believe in the concept of guns being used for self defense, "we don't want anyone shooting guns in our community" I would be amazed if he issued any CCW permits to anyone.
There are rural cities a local chief might do so.Leave a comment:

Link?
I couldn’t find anything CCW related at:
Did you even take 5 min each to look around the Berkeley and Oakland PD sites before asking here? Did you try calling them and asking? If you had and posted what you found out you would be adding to the value of this thread and CGN to the CA gun community.Last edited by Paladin; 11-06-2022, 11:08 PM.Leave a comment:
