So, I had my interview yesterday. It was very pleasant and quick. About 90% of the interview was just going through my application. The extra questions were stuff like asking about how I kept my current guns in the home, whether children had access to my home, whether I had a medical marijuana card (although she prefaced the question by noting that having such a card was perfectly legal), and whether I was familiar with CCW insurance. She also asked me to state in my own words why I was applying.

The deputy said that, if all went well, she hoped that my CCW license would be issued by the end of the year. She thought a backlog might be the psych exam because there were only two people doing the exam and administering the 150-question test. (Looking at people's timelines, I don't see the psych exam delaying the license.)

The next step will be the Live Scan in San Leandro, although she was still waiting for my background information from my local police department.

I gave her the model and serial number for the second firearm I wanted to add to the license. She said that I could qualify with a third gun and add that later.

I applied in July 2022 and am in the 640s out of a queue of about 2,300.

What surprised me most was that, despite applicants waiting a year for the interview, she said that she has had no-shows. There were also two other earlier interview appointment slots that day that no one took.

    Applied: 7/14/2022
Email to set up interview: 7/20/2023
    Interview: 7/31/2023

The preferred instructors for Alameda had lunch with ACSO office today.
Some changes are coming to Alameda applicants. If you have already been approved to start training then you are not affected, please proceed with the training you have scheduled.

However, going forward the training will be a mandatory 16-hour training class with an additional 1-hour qualifier. The 8-hour option has been removed, and the 4 hour qualifier is just 1 hour now.

Training certificates will only be accepted from those trainers listed on the email you will receive from Judea. Training from other instructors will not be accepted and you will have to retake the training from an approved vendor.

You may also now get 3 firearms on your license and the qualification score is 70% with each firearm.

Does the 1 hour qualification also apply to those of us who will have to renew / re qualify annually?

What does this mean for renewals?

Renewals are still 4 hours but you will need to go through an approved instructor.

The original group of instructors for 2023 are all still there. They've added a couple more.

                        Revolver as 3rd gun

I would like to Qual my Ruger LCR as the 3rd gun.
Any idea if wadcutter amp is allowed to qualify?
Can a aftermarket front sight (xs big dot) be installed on the gun?

                        Thank you for any info!!

No restrictions on firearm modifications in Alameda. The aftermarket sight or a red dot is definitely good to go. Wadcutter amp I have no idea what is it.

I wouldn?t think either would be a problem, amo is amo, HP, RN WC, etc, Sam long as it?s not armor piercing. They didn?t check the amo. Front sight should also not be a problem, their just checking SNs, make and model to make sure it matches DOJ. My 1911 had a Crimson Trace laser, I didn?t use it but it was equipped and no questions asked.

I believe he meant wad cutter amo. It?s a perfectly flat bullet used for target revolvers to make a a clean round hole in paper for scoring purposes. Not used in autos, won?t feed.
