Look back in this thread. I posted the document ACSO sends out. It has all the round counts, distances and times for the range qualification.

    The image was deleted.

    However I found this info:

one of the approved Alameda CCW instructors posted the following:

"The yardage is 2, 5, 7, 15 and 25 yards. All from the holster under concealment, and all timed. For example, at 25 yards draw from concealment and fire 5 rounds in 15 seconds. Scoring is the standard IPSC target, total of 50 shots so 250 points possible. Have to score 70%."
Time to source some IPSC targets.

Curious, did they tell you if you will be qualifying at ACSO or did they direct you to a private vendor to complete the qualification? I qualified on 3/16 and was told by the deputy that it was the "last class".

You need to have strong side holster to be allowed on the range.

Out of curiosity, does Judea's email specify that the holster has to be strong side concealed or can it just be a duty holster set up? I haven't seen the email yet since I just completed the Livescan. Thx!

Guys (and gals), don’t over think it. I picked up some of the older ACSO targets to train with and they were nice to have, but not necessary. If you can shoot center mass out to 25 yards you’ll be just fine. It’s not a hard qualification by any means, especially when you only have to score 175 out of 250 to pass. The 25 yard shots are the hardest part but you have a ridiculous amount of time for those (and honestly, for every stage the times are pretty darn generous). Take your time and no need to rush. Seemed like all the others in my class were just cranking off shots as fast as they could despite having a ton of time for each stage. You’re not graded on your speed but you are graded on your accuracy. Take advantage of that amount of time given at each stage and make the shots count. Nobody cares how fast you are, especially if you’re not accurate.

My recommendation would be to focus more on dry practicing at home with a timer so you know how much time you have and what that feels like at each stage.

The other thing I did the month before leading up to the range qual was go to the range once a week with a box of ammo and just take 25 yard shots. That’s all I did at the range, nothing else. Just a box of ammo, all 25 yard shots and then went home. I knew if I could consistently shoot 4’s and 5’s from 25 yards the rest of the test would be simple.

I used an OWB BladeTech kydex holster for the range qual. Several others were using a similar OWB set up. Heck, one guy looked like he had a full race gun set up with like 4 separate mag pouches all canted at different angles. Dudes was even wearing gloves. Kind of overkill and a bit dorky if you ask me but hey, whatever works for you I guess as long as it?s within the rules and what they require.

Taken directly from the email from ACSO:

?REMINDER: YOU MUST HAVE A STRONG SIDE SHOOTING HOLSTER WHILE USING SHERIFF?S RANGE FACILITIES. SHOULDER OR CROSS-DRAW HOLSTERS ARE NOT ALLOWED ON THE RANGE.?

I second this advice. We had a guy fail because he rushed his shots and they were all over the place even at 7 yards. Take your time. For sure you can rapid fire and 2 yards and 5 yards if you want and still be dead center but when you get out to 15 and certainly 25 yards, you have lots of time, so use it!

Also, you do not need to draw from concealment. an exposed, OWB holster is find as long as it is strong side. Our deputy was feeling generous and didn't have the targets turned and they were in such a hurry that when I did a second go with my second weapon they didn't even have me holster, just go from low ready and fire away. It was actually quite fun so don't overthink it.

I noticed from previous posts most people get "proceed to training email" within a day or two from ASCO after Psych Eval. Has anyone been waiting for the training email longer?

I had my psych last week and doctor told me at the end he would write a certificate to sheriff and wished me good luck on the next step. But so far hasn't got the next step email ... you can't just go sign up training until you get sheriff's email about training right?

That is odd. Has your livescan cleared? If it's hung up by DOJ, then nothing you can do. But assuming it's cleared and there's nothing in your background that needs further investigation, then you should have moved to psych eval by now. My livescan was February and I'm waiting for the "come and get it" notification.

You used a Shield if I recall right? Reason I am asking is because I just purchased a Shield Plus a week ago and am looking for a good holster to use when I do my Quals.

It's a standard IPSC target, ranges from 2-25 yards. All 5 shot strings. I think the fastest stages require you to complete in 10 seconds. 2 seconds between shots is standard for ranges around here, so it was my usual cadence. Any hit on target is a good hit. Good luck
