I applied to LASD late last year, and last week I received a letter from them indicating that since I live in LA City that I needed to apply to the LAPD first and can apply to them if denied.

I thought theyre was legislation that resolved this last year that said you could apply to either local PD or SD and they had to process it. Did I miss something, or did they?

Los Angeles - APPLY to Get a Spot in Line

What would be a valid reason that would possibly be supported by L.A. County to allow a person to obtain a CCW?

        1) being a major celebrity (movie, TV, sports, music... Someone the sheriff would love to take a selfie with)

        2) contributing "a lot" of money to the sheriff's re-election campaign (if you have to ask how much is "a lot" you can't afford it)

        3) being able to provide proof that the mafia/organized crime has put a "hit" out on you or a price on your head (proof of certain and imminent danger that the police and sheriffs can not adequately protect you from, subject to their evaluation of the situation)

There was a Calgunner from the not so distant past that used the fact that he banged high profile chicks. Not sure if that worked or not as he was banned very soon after...

Was anyone able to get their CCW using SD as their GC statement?

It means that unless you've donated significant amounts of money to the Sheriff's Reelection Fund, you won't get one. None of us will.

so pretty much you just lost your filing money or LA just earned some extra bucks to use to fund more illegal immigrant programs.

Move to Orange County and your problem will be solved and yes, it can be done so if you want a CCW badly enough you can do it!

Wont matter.... I work with/around criminals and have been threatened by validated gang members and was denied by 2 different city chiefs and LASD.

Good news is that LASD sent me my $10 back.

BTW, Pasadena PD records SGT that I spoke with gave me the entire breakdown of their Chiefs policy and even a good, non-biased summary of Peruta (this was prior to the last 9th decision)... In short - go through the process and spend around $300 just to be told no, or wait until Peruta is decided. Additionally, he said they were sued (seemed like a rather recent lawsuit) and won.

Okay so I've got a different question now that my father in law is thinking of selling his business and I think that he's my way in. He's a jeweler and works with 5-7 figure pieces and every once in a while I go with him to the bank and things of that nature, I have my security guard card and was thinking of applying.. I live in LA, what would be the process and what are my chances of actually succeeding?

Your chances are zero, the only jeweller permits that are still issued are from small PD's east of downtown. The LASD/ LAPD permits are only renewals at this point
