You need at least two. You need a spare in case your main carry gun needs to be in the shop, or if god forbid, you have to use it and it is taken as evidence. You will be without it for a long time when you are probably most vulnerable in case there is some form of retaliation.
I advocate putting all your concealable guns on your permit. This forms a protective shield for you against legal difficulties resulting from inadvertent transportation errors such as the possibility you thought it was unloaded, but you inadvertently left a round in the chamber or the lock you put in the case did not actually lock when you thought it did. You may also want a variety of guns for different anticipated risks or clothing. The one I carry daily in a proper holster on my belt is different from the smaller one I slip in my pocket just to take out the trash. Different calibers is also a good idea if you can't find ammo for one in the future, you may for the other.Leave a comment:

Multiple guns is not a problem. List the guns you want on your permit. When you take your class, you will have to qualify (shoot) with each gun you list.Leave a comment:

Hi guys,
I am about to submit an application to the San Diego Sheriff for my first CCW permit and am a tad worried about listing multiple guns on the application based on some threads here. I have possible carry options of Glock 19, 19X and 31. I am going to do the 8 hours course at PWG in Poway.
Would I have to do multiple courses/tests to get these approved?
Would you guys suggest keeping it simple and just picking one for now?
Thanks in anticipation of your advice.Leave a comment:

On the question of good cause - does the value of guns you may have in a vehicle with you, specifically when camping in remote areas, count as justification for CCW? I would think that if the value of camera equipment or tools is good cause that equally valuable firearms would also count? They are with me to go shooting when in said remote areas. Thanks.Leave a comment:

I think I am an outlier but I submitted my certificate the Saturday I completed the course. I assume they didn't process it until Monday, but I received my permit in the mail that same week Thursday or Friday. Again, I don't think that is normal, but less than a week for me. This was in April 2022.Leave a comment:

if we get a good ruling soon from SCOTUS, there is a chance we may not need to do the good cause anymore.

I seem to remember a how-to-do-it guide/advice article on applying for CCW in San Diego county, can one of you please direct me to something that will be helpful and lessons learned for when I do my application? Thank you.Leave a comment:

Oh I know. I'm not going in blind to it at all and this was nothing easy to consider. It sucks actually the choices there are. The only good news was they all claim to support CCW.Leave a comment:
