Renewal process was pretty fast. Had to create a CCW Pro account and nothing happened for about a week until I emailed them, then it was approved that same day and I could submit the renewal documents and pay. There was no questions about references. About 2.5 weeks from document submission to receiving permit in mail. Perhaps since they are doing things faster it's better to not start at 45 days out and wait, since we have been cheated of an entire month before expiration since they move the expiration day up on us base on when we submit.

For Discount Guns class of course was now the 8 hours for renewal. Ugh. Construction in the area so plan accordingly. They now have you load up all your firearms you want on the permit at once. So you shoot all four at the same distance, then move on to the next distance and shoot all four. Etc. This made things go fast. Only four or you pay more and have to come back another day I think. Also remember we can only CCW two firearms at the same time. That was a new part of SB2 I believe. Not sure anyone would do three but who knows, you could have two on your person and one in the car while driving. That would not be legal.

Thank you for the update. Did you list references on your renewal application or did you leave it blank?

I didn't see anything asking for references, and if by some fluke I missed it, I certainly didn't provide any.

I'm noticing the "Agcy. Lic. #: XXXXXXXX" and "CII #: XXXXXXXX" on the mailed license are identical. Is that normal? Or did they screw up?

EDIT, the old paper one they were the same too. Guess it's normal.

So what has been the wait time to get the registration approved for CCW Pro? Mine has been over a month now. My renewal is coming up in December. Have my 8 hour class scheduled in the first part of November. As I recall you can do the renewal up to 45 days prior to its expiration.

I'm sorry but I have no idea what you are asking here.

What is, "CCW Pro?" What the heck is "Pro?"

What have you been waiting on over a month now??

For renewals, you can submit your renewal application 45 days in advance but they now want you to have completed the renewal class first and submit your certificate with the renewal app on line. They're pretty quick on renewals but it's anyone's guess with respect to exactly how much time they need. For example, if you submitted your application w/certificate a week before your expiration date, I don't know if you would get approved before your permit expires. But if you submit your app close to the 45 day mark, you'll probably get it renewed somewhat close to before they expiration date. You'll actually probably lose a week or two...because they don't renew you from your actual expiration date...which is annoying.

CCW Pro is what replaced "Permitium". You have to register first on CCW Pro and get approved to move forward on your application or renewal. The wait to get approved can take time. It's best to send them an email and goose them. A month is excessive. I waited a week to remind them. Then they approved it fast and I could do my renewal in my case.

                  Oh Geez.

Thank you for the info! My renewal is coming up in Dec too and I'm just starting the process. Every damn time I go to renew it's a whole new freaking process.

Yep, good news is no more paper permit, they give us the state approved plastic card now.

Just FYI...SD Sheriff Dept took just a couple of days to approve my CCW Pro account. Small win.

For the love of Eff'ing god and all that is holy...

What is the CCW Permit number?

Is it the CII Number or the ORI Number?

And why in the freaking hell can't the freaking SD Sheriff's Dept just tell us which G'dam mother Eff'ing freaking number they want? How are we supposed to know which number they consider the permit number!?

Also...I had this information bookmarked but the addresses are hosed since the migration. And I just don't have the sanity to try to deal with the search function when the forum is so hosed up.

                        Please and Thank You!

"Agcy. Lic. #: XXXXXXXX" and "CII #: XXXXXXXX" on the permits are the same exact number.
CII number is a Criminal Identification and Information number, ORI number is an Originating Agency Identifier.

So easy way to remember is California treats us permit holders like criminals, so hence the "C" in CII.

Note that it only took SD Sheriff's two days to get my CCW Pro account set up. So that's encouraging. I'd still give yourself plenty of time before your 45 day renewal date to make sure your Pro account is GTG.

Good luck...and may the odds be ever in your favor!

For folks that have renewed recently, what are you seeing with regards to you previous expiration date?

Is the sheriff renewing your permit in accordance with your current expiration date?...So if your current permit expired on, say, Oct 31st, did your renewed permit begin on Nov 1st...so you didn't lose any of the time that you paid for...or did they simply renew your permit on whatever day they issued it and mailed it out to you?

I'm on my fourth renewal and all the previous times I ended up losing a week or two because the Sheriff did NOT renew the permit in accordance with the pervious permit's expiration date.

However, for this go round, I've currently been approved for renewal but I have not received the actual permit yet (I assume it's in the mail)...but CCW Pro is showing they renewed me in accordance with my current expiration date this time.

And if this is true, it's great that they're finally getting their act together so that people don't lose time that they paid for. But it's still infuriating that we lost time at all. Seems like there would be a decent case for a class action lawsuit. Because if they can get it right now, why couldn't they get it right before? I want ALL the damn time that I legally paid for! *insert old man yelling at clouds emoji here*

I lost a month. They have us so wound up to get it done early so we don't end up with a gap, that it works against us. It's not a two year permit.
