I'm curious what happens with SB2 next year. Do we think the 4 hour renewal class gets replaced with what is currently the 8 hour class?

And then what do they do to add 8 hours of content to the initial class?

I've been through the initial class and the renewal class three times now. I'm sick of all of it. And don't get me wrong, Kyle and company do a good job with the class. It's not their fault. I just wish the time was more useful and productive.

I think I read here the injunction if successful next month, didn't include the classes.
So yeah, we might be boned either way I think with 8 hours for renewal.
Maybe I'll go somewhere else just to mix it up. The whole thing is a tantrum from Newscum and democrats. A few hours drive east and nobody cares and concealed people are no problem there exactly as they are here.

The Licencing division responded to my very similar question promptly and clearly, indicating that
If you take your training class prior to December 31, 2023, your class will be 4 hours. If you take it after January 1, 2024, your class will be 8 hour class. Certificates are good for 90 days.
...which I interpret as: 2023 certs can be used to renew within the first part of 2024.

The (amended) law says both new and renewal classes must:

(2)The course shall include instruction on firearm safety, firearm handling, shooting technique, safe storage, legal methods to transport firearms and securing firearms in vehicles, laws governing where permitholders may carry firearms, laws regarding the permissible use of a firearm, and laws regarding the permissible use of lethal force in self-defense.
            (3) The course shall include a component, no less than one hour in length, on mental health and mental health resources.
            (4) Except for the component on mental health and mental health resources, the course shall be taught and supervised by firearms instructors certified by the Department of Justice pursuant to Section 31635, or in a manner to be prescribed by regulation.
            (5) The course shall require students to pass a written examination to demonstrate their understanding of the covered topics.
            (6) The course shall include live-fire shooting exercises on a firing range and shall include a demonstration by the applicant of safe handling of, and shooting proficiency with, each firearm that the applicant is applying to be licensed to carry.
Other than that, the class content is largely up to the folks creating the class, subject to whatever review/approval process the IA may have.

Sweet! Thanks for the review. I'm looking G20, G19, and P365. I'm eager to go. Going to hit the range on Wednesday to double check my optic zeros so I don't waste time or embarass myself.

I just received my new California Sig P395 yesterday and today met my instructor at the range for the certificate. Submitted it over the net to SDSO and am waiting to get a revised CCW license. I'll let you know how long it takes.

Finished my class. Simple straight forward. Final fees paid, cert submitted, email sent.

Hoping I get it by end of next week. Count me in the club guys!

I get maybe 2 weeks to carry like a free man.

Initial CCW (San Diego County): applied 10-9-22, interviewed 8-21-23, approval letter email & phone notification received 11-17-23, class taken on 11-22-23, 11-25-23 received email verifying that all fees and documentation is in order and permit will be mailed in 3-4 weeks.

I took my course through 2nd A Firearms Training (7841 Balboa Ave, Suite #210). Experience was good, Instructor was straightforward about the responsibility and requirements, and very helpful in answering questions, presenting everything so it could easily be understood. There were 8 of us at the beginning, two of whom were renewals so they weren't there for the second half of the class. Only 6 folks in the class made it easy for the qualification process. I recommend Paul Gooding, he made sure we wouldn't shoot ourselves in the foot!

Renewal update: submitted renewal documents on 11/22/2023 and just received email stating renewal was approved. We?ll see how long it takes to receive it in the mail.

And hopefully, we?ll see an injunction on SB2.

Received my permit today, so figure two weeks from the time you submit your certificate.

Starting the process to get my CCW

I'm going to start the process. I have Just 1 question.
Both my pistols have been purchased at Turners in california since 2010. Would they be registered automatically?

Today I received a phone call, text and email approving the addition of a California Sig P365 to my CCW. That took 16 days.
