Don't use it if it bothers you so much, it is sketchy most days, The worst is the inability to retrieve posts, and PMs before you were a member. I used it like a Rolodex and almost never added the contacts to my phone, my bad. PAX

I logged in yesterday morning, wrote five minutes of peace, and when I tried to reply the site went down for about 8 hours. I was checking at 1 hour intervals. I'm not re-typing it but holy **** guys, this site would be more useful if just made this a searchable archive for old posts and posted up entirely new forums software that isn't sock-connection hell. When it says 4803 guests, that's guaranteed to be 4750 bots crawling pages and loading ****, which might, just might, be a clue to why this place grounds to a halt real quick all the damn time.

I really hope when I press reply this time, it actually posts up. Using the marketplace is impossible except for throwing a pm with their phone number and praying. This is the dog you take out back and shoot. Go buy a puppy. Calguns' name has irrevocably decayed at this point, congratulations and my condolences.

Pro tip. Go to to the thread you were posting in and scroll to the end. Sometimes it saves your post and it will ask you if you want to discard it or still post it. But I feel your pain, too many times the site goes tits up and you lose your post and all the time it took for you to create it. Extremely frustrating and shouldn't be so.


ETA: I wrote this the other day and tried to post it but it didn't go through. It was saved with a choice to discard or restore. I restored it and now posting.

2 years?!? I’m pretty sure the first time the site went down was during Covid. I’m going to say we’ve been dealing with this for nearly 4 years. The fact that nobody can figure it out or find someone to actually give a F, is unbelievable. I used to love this site, but I can’t get on 9/10x I try.

There has been many offers by people wiling to volunteer their services to the owner but apparently he hasn't taken them up on their offers. The sad thing is, you being a new member shows that new people are looking for a site like this and want a site like this. But yet it has been years this site has been crippled.

I hear you… but I also choose not to participate in certain topics. I come to these sites primarily for buying and selling, and will chime in on limited topics. Politics are always a topic that gets blown out of proportion. I get why, and I’m a hard lined republican. But I choose to stay away from those topics as arguing with keyboard commandos does nothing for me

Politics and firearms are inexorably intertwined. The other site by and large sees it as some hobby, which it is but also much, much more. Arguing when properly done is to the benefit of everyone, especially those not doing the arguing.

It’s been longer than two years and from the most recent post, there seems to be no one from the site hosting side able to help Kes.

I’ve gone through the support system for the hosting company and while they have helped they also told me this is beyond their normal purview. I’d have liked for them to be able to help but I appreciate that they were honest and told me it was not within their expertise. The support representative said I would need to speak to a database administrator or analyst they weren’t sure which.

I know I’m in the minority here, but if Calguns would just ditch the history and start fresh on a new stable platform, in 2-4 years we would have this place back to its glory. From that I’ve read, trying to hold on to the 20years of old posts, is part of the issue.

I’m on the other forum as well as a half dozen other forums, all hosted on platforms that just work. Say what you will about the management on the other site, you cannot argue its stability and functionality.

As of this post there are 143 registered members here and 6,167 “guests” whatever those are.

That depends on how one defines 'stability and functionality.'

From a technical perspective, I don't believe anyone has argued that the 'other' site functions and, with some exceptions, has a certain 'stability.' (Bear in mind, that site has had its own issues with down time, scammers, and changes; just to a lesser degree than this one, which is understandable given the differences.)

From a... let's call it 'ergonomic'... perspective, that site is, to us, far more unstable in terms of not only how it is administered, but in terms of its 'philosophical' underpinnings. That impacts its 'functionality' in terms of communicating that which many remaining here feel is crucial in terms of keeping the 2nd Amendment community functioning or bringing it back to functioning the way it was intended.

Remember, whether a site works at a technical level is one thing. Whether a site works in terms of what it's mission is or is claimed to be is something else. In that sense, if it works for you, have at. It doesn't 'function' for many/most of us.
