Seriously, I just wish there was some sort of communication from admin on anything server related. Anybody have any sort of insight as to the actual technical side of things? Is help needed? Two different forums doesn't make us weaker as a community if they are both functioning well, but when one is hobbling, and the veteran forum users feel like their interests aren't being addressed in the new one, is when we start to suffer. I do want you guys to know that I appreciate all of you as members of this community, and would happily invite you to the range with me. Anyway, I hope that whatever is ailing this platform gets addressed in a meaningful way for you guys.

Thats a silly complaint . It's still the best we got. If any I think the sight should have a paid membership and use the funds for improvement . "close it down"? well it's a free county and you have the freedom to delete your account .

You're right, there should have been more communication. It doesn’t excuse it but I’ve been buried with new responsibilities at work and frankly somewhat overwhelmed with trying to sort things out here.

The issue with the server is database related, there is something causing timeouts and failures. I have a hundred or more error log files on the server in the file manager and have numerous error emails.
The main issue is I have no knowledge of SQL databases and very limited familiarity with using the root access on this server.
As I’ve mentioned elsewhere I was fortunate enough that for years on end we were hosted by Calgunner mcubed. While we did pay for the hosting an amazing benefit was his knowledge and expertise. I would usually find out about a problem when I was told ‘This happened, I fixed it so it’s all good’.
This meant I never had to learn the backend of the server which now leaves me stuck.

I’ve gone through the support system for the hosting company and while they have helped they also told me this is beyond their normal purview. I’d have liked for them to be able to help but I appreciate that they were honest and told me it was not within their expertise. The support representative said I would need to speak to a database administrator or analyst they weren’t sure which.

FYI, NPORA forum, which seemed to be using the same software, has had similar issues with 500 error acccess denied to database for couple of weeks now. Perhaps a bug in the software?

I'll note that for about the last week, I have been able to actually get on every time I have tried.

I have no idea why, but it's encouraging.

I usually log in with the expectation the site will be down. When it logs on successfully I’m thrilled.

I prefer not to shut it down permanently.

Aww....missed Kes post. Good to hear from you! If I may, you just have make the executive decision to find someone you trust to do the work needed and figure it out. That is my only advice.

Can you provide the error fragment your seeing in the logs ?

Don't use it if it bothers you so much, it is sketchy most days, The worst is the inability to retrieve posts, and PMs before you were a member. I used it like a Rolodex and almost never added the contacts to my phone, my bad. PAX

I logged in yesterday morning, wrote five minutes of peace, and when I tried to reply the site went down for about 8 hours. I was checking at 1 hour intervals. I'm not re-typing it but holy **** guys, this site would be more useful if just made this a searchable archive for old posts and posted up entirely new forums software that isn't sock-connection hell. When it says 4803 guests, that's guaranteed to be 4750 bots crawling pages and loading ****, which might, just might, be a clue to why this place grounds to a halt real quick all the damn time.

I really hope when I press reply this time, it actually posts up. Using the marketplace is impossible except for throwing a pm with their phone number and praying. This is the dog you take out back and shoot. Go buy a puppy. Calguns' name has irrevocably decayed at this point, congratulations and my condolences.

I do think you are right, there is something going on when there are 6,713 users online right now, with only 146 members (us). But I will move on before someone chimes in with "they are working on it"
