    I agree.

I never expected it to fix the problems, just to lessen them.
To clarify my point, I know the database issue has been mentioned on this site for the issue here, my comments was directed to the .org site in that we do not know what the actual problem is at that site, or if that site can be put to a better/higher use.

Having a stable classified site for CG would also help prevent further bleeding of users here, and if/when the .net can be functioning again the classifieds can be merged. Can keep the site very simple, example-all posts expire at 30 days so no storage needed to archive anything.

As I said, I am just posing the question.

Has anyone here met Kes? Could you actually stop by his place and help him out with this whole thing? This is gonna take a coordinated and serious effort. I hate watching things collapse, it's the opposite of how I feel as an American, when we should be building instead of watching things crumble and perish. At least people are starting to talk about solutions.

I stopped by once . . . He answered the door wearing nothing but a drop leg holster holding a cigar in one hand and donut in the other. I ran for cover. 😋

I'm surprised after the last 3 years, that Kes just stopped replying. Why can't he just come clean and say

"Sorry everyone, but it seems cal guns is beyond repair, Professionals have tried helping and there's not coming back. Calguns is dying slowly and in the not distant future, it will stop working completely. Until then, I want to thank everyone for the amazing years we had. God speed"

                something along those lines.

He could come out and admit this is completely beyond him and in order to fix calguns or transform it he needs X amount of money to get professionals to do it.

List the project overview and cost, ask people to donate and just tell it like it is : without the money it's done for.

I noted, this morning, after a fairly long forum siesta, it's working fine with showing over 10,000 guests and 120 members online but OT is dead, hardly any activity. There appears to be a core group of stalwarts, maybe a few dozen, who post regularly, and everyone else has spread to the wind.

Who will be the last man standing?

ETA some metrics for CG and that other site that actually uses CG's name directly in part of its description "a Calguns alternative" Click to enlarge images.

It was either last Wed. or Thurs., early AM there were just 32 members and 2286 guests. One morning within the last week just 18 members and less than 2000 guests, the fewest I've ever seen on site myself. I'm stubborn, ain't gonna quit.

He did surface to post this:

You're right, there should have been more communication. It doesn’t excuse it but I’ve been buried with new responsibilities at work and frankly somewhat overwhelmed with trying to sort things out here.

The issue with the server is database related, there is something causing timeouts and failures. I have a hundred or more error log files on the server in the file manager and have numerous error emails.
The main issue is I have no knowledge of SQL databases and very limited familiarity with using the root access on this server.
As I’ve mentioned elsewhere I was fortunate enough that for years on end we were hosted by Calgunner mcubed. While we did pay for the hosting an amazing benefit was his knowledge and expertise. I would usually find out about a problem when I was told ‘This happened, I fixed it so it’s all good’.
This meant I never had to learn the backend of the server which now leaves me stuck.

I’ve gone through the support system for the hosting company and while they have helped they also told me this is beyond their normal purview. I’d have liked for them to be able to help but I appreciate that they were honest and told me it was not within their expertise. The support representative said I would need to speak to a database administrator or analyst they weren’t sure which.
