The upgrade has resulted in pretty much the same issues that we experienced prior to the upgrade. Something in the upgrade process appears to have moved along with all of the data. It might be that the system will need to be run again as a basic move without all the customizations.Comment

IMO there is a high degree of likelyhood that there is some malicious code that came along for the ride, and quite possibly is continuing to self replicate a severe resource expenditure. Which would mean that it's a "tad" more complex than just a configuration issue...
I say this because there is simply no reasonable reason for the site to be as up and down as it is... While it may be that the site owners/admins are in over their head, that does not account for the long running seemingly "baked in" issues that leave the site inaccessible for a high percentage of users and times of day.
I randomly hit the CGN "tab" to refresh and try to load and post (as I'm doing now)... increasingly it's DAYS between successful "connects", not hours or minutes.... I'm sure there are guys capable of fixing this in fairly short order, but that level of skill ain't cheap, and you are talking about a software that seems to be approaching EOL?!👍 2Comment

Is Kes ok? Seriously, has there been anyone in contact with him?Comment

What I find it both interesting and odd: both Kes and DrjonesUSA said this would be fixed in short order, and they are both MIA. I'm in the database business, both public facing and private, and would have been fired by the end of the first week, or first couple of hours, of non-operation. I just can't understand, how hard I try, how these issues can not be fixed, or rolled back quickly (while fixing the new version). I would think, at the worst, a new forum could be built from scratch, and the data ported over in a matter of weeks, as a part time project.
DrjonesUSA OP was full of self assuredness and bravo, and then crickets. I really loved Calguns.net, and I'm a patient guy, but at this point, the Calguns community has been severely damaged, and both Kes and DrjonesUSA appear to be the ones bringing the community down.

A new forum has been built. Go to https://caguns.net You will find many of the regulars there.
Can I reply to a thread about what flooring to use in a hallway?
Is there a political meme thread?
How about appliances, yoga pants, the weaponization of the DoJ, or plov?
From what I’ve read from others I have no need to go and hang out with Redditors and use one sentence replies to agree about something.

Is there a focus on California 2A topics? - YES! Lots more of that there than here anymore - by leaps and bounds. And you can actually get on the site all hours of the day to realize it.
Can I reply to a thread about what flooring to use in a hallway? - Why? It's a gun and 2nd Amendment forum; there's thousands of other places all over the internet that specialize in that topic, with question/answer formats, FAQs, even Youtube videos on why, what, and how.
Is there a political meme thread? - Whatever for and why? Trump won - I'm too happy to given any more time or attention to the losers.
How about appliances, yoga pants, the weaponization of the DoJ, or plov? - - Whatever for and why? Glad there isn't. This is the kind of crap that ruined Calguns in the first place; Calguns became 80% Off-Topic retardation, 10% Marketplace, 5% 'Account Issues, Outage Reports & Technical Problems' and maybe 5% gun/2nd Amendment posts on a good day.
From what I’ve read from others I have no need to go and hang out with Redditors and use one sentence replies to agree about something. From what I've seen thus far, that's not even remotely the case. But with so rare the occasion to be able to log in here on Calguns, what if any 'hanging out' can you do here save for about a stretch of 18 minutes before it kicks you out and gives you nothing but '504 Gateway Timeout' for the next 4 days in a row?

If some level of government had that information, what would they do with it? How would having that info benefit public safety? How would it benefit law enforcement?👍 1👎 1Comment

The reason this site doesn’t work is because Kes submitted to whining about iTrader, so didn’t follow the upgrade path when it should have been done. At some point it was going to be a problem; it went so long that it is a massive (potentially fatal) ****show.
Every forum I’ve spent time on either has a focus so narrow as to be retarded, and ends up with fewer and fewer interested members, or has a focus on an area of interest AND includes other expressions of common interest. If you’re not willing to engage like-minded individuals on more than one topic, why would you deny yourself and others that engagement and camaraderie?👍 1Comment
