UPDATE: TUES. 9/17/2024 - SERVER REPAIRS ARE & HAVE BEEN IN PROGRESS!!

    Hi CalGuns!

    Few things for everyone:

    1) Please help spread this message far & wide. I know the "natives are getting restless" - I'm right there with ya!

    2) I posted a thread a while back offering to donate my I.T. services & expertise to fix CalGuns permanently, and Kestryll gladly accepted!
He's been extremely polite, kind, gracious, professional; a true pleasure to work with. No wonder CG has grown so well under his stewardship!
I truly give him a lot of kudos; esp. in a public forum like this, it is very difficult to admit when you need help & to ask for help. It is very hard.
    Let's all recognize & applaud that. ๐Ÿ˜Ž๐Ÿ™Œ

    3) My team & I have been working and are still working hard & fast to find and permanently resolve the issues plaguing our beloved CalGuns.net site.

I've been a member for - man.... I had to go check; since 12/2005!!! Damn near 20 years! ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿคฉ
This forum & its members have truly been a blessing to me, and instrumental in my life & passion for guns.
My point in all this is to emphasize that I care a LOT about this place all all of you. Truly.
(Yes, even YOU....... you know who you are.... ๐Ÿคจ๐Ÿคจ๐Ÿ˜š๐Ÿ˜š๐Ÿ˜Ž๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ™ƒ๐Ÿค—)

    4) Kes & I are acutely aware of how much this disruption & downtime sucks. Truly.
I'm pleased to say that there is a lot of light at the tunnel, and the end of this yucky tunnel seems quite close!
AKA: we're very close to resolving these issues!

Your patience, grace & understanding are appreciated.
Both Kes & I (as with most of you) have very busy professional & personal lives, so we are working extremely hard to get this done as quickly as possible, while not endangering our day jobs, families, etc.
They can all suck it up a LITTLE bit, for a little while, but you get it.... ๐Ÿ˜ถ

    5) Just over the past couple days, we've identified & already resolved a few issues.
For me personally, on multiple different devices & locations, the site seems WAY faster, more stable, etc. Huge improvement. Night & day better.

    6) Please bear with us & be kind, but we do need honest, helpful & constructive feedback as to how the site is running for people, so if you want to post updates & feedback here, that would be really helpful.
As always, the more detailed & specific, the better.

If you can include as much info as possible, that is helpful; Mac or PC, OS version, what browser you are using, and any specific errors / issues are useful. Screenshots are great too!

    7) If you are still having troubles with the site, BEFORE posting about it, please do the following:
    a) Restart / reboot your device. Turn it off & back on. That applies to everything; laptops, desktop, cell phones, tablets; reboot the darn thing!
    b) clear your browser cache. (Ask here if you need help)
    c) Ensure you know & have your current CalGuns login / password, and then delete any cookies ONLY for CalGuns.net - instructions below.
    d) Restart your internet / ISP modem / router. The little box that broadcasts the WiFis.... pull the power, let it sit at least 30-45 seconds (yes, it's important), then plug back in & wait ~3-5 min for it to fully boot back up.

    More instructions:

    1) How to Clear Cookies From Individual Sites in Chrome
(Definitely recommended clearing only calguns cookies, vs. mass deleting all / multiple cookies!!)

    2) Info direct from Google on managing Cookies:
You can choose to delete existing cookies, allow or block third-party cookies, and set preferences for certain websites. Important: If you’re part of the test group that limits third-party cookies by

    โ€‹

    8) OK, that's about all I had for now.
    Again & to reiterate;
    1. Thanks for your patience & understanding,
    2. We're almost done fixing CalGuns,
    3. Please share any constructive feedback here (or DM me of course if you like)
    4. Spread this news!

    Thank You!

Much better here. Still some delay in loading pages, but this is the first time I've even been able to get on at this time of day.

Almost comical, I read the OP about 20 minutes or so ago, and clicked to go back the main page and got the famous 504 gateway. Sorry, had to laugh.

Just bad timing, it's running well at the moment with some lag. I'll see how she runs before I go through the instructions above.

      Thank you to all involved.

        Agreed.
Just recently - between about 12:45 - 1:30 PST - started getting some "gateway timeout" errors & difficulties, but all morning it's been FLYING faster than ever.

I think we might still need to add resources, but will consult w/my team.
Rest assured, we are working on it!!

Yep, same same. LITERALLY the moment after I posted, it started acting up for me too.
I guarantee you what's happening is - esp. because it's lunch-ish time - people are checking periodically, and once they see it works & start surfing the forum; the server just can't keep up with the load.
Again; we are still actively working on it, but we've made progress!

"He's been extremely polite, kind, gracious, professional; a true pleasure to work with......." You are going to dissuade those that think otherwise. (J.K., J.K.) : - )

Doc J: Thanks for the extra help.

Mr. K: Thanks for all the effort, despite all the gripes, we appreciate it.
Suggestion: Once you are comfortable about the stability, is it possible to send a mass e-mail to members letting the know it is time to come back?

So, why is the forum having so many problems when the old software worked perfectly do me. I had no problems logging on , going from page to page, etc.

And PLEASE, someone tell me where the button is for showing all new posts since the last time I visited.

                  please?

                    Sir;
                    I get it. Truly, and with every fiber of my being;
It's so ironic because I am a long-time I.T. Professional, and my entire life I've enjoyed it, and simply been gifted that my brain works that way.
I HATE change for its own sake.
I HATE all these coked-out Silicon Valley, techno-crack monkeys (with a side of adderall) always tinkering and playing and changing and upgrading - merely to justify having their ridiculous jobs.

                    I HATE IT.

                    That said,
I'm powerless to do anything to stop it. Change; upgrades & improvement are inevitable, especially with technology. ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿคฌ๐Ÿคฌ
Further; hardware gets old & stops working, and modern software just isn't written to work on hardware older than a few years / certain age.

So - and of course I defer to Kestryll - I'd imagine that if he wanted to upgrade the server, he would have also been forced to upgrade the vBulletin forum software.
Or vice versa; if he'd wanted to upgrade the vBulletin software that powers CalGuns; he almost certainly would have been forced to upgrade hardware.
They get you one way or another.

That said; I don't know where's the "new since last visited' link / button; I usually go to my user profile where it shows threads I've subscribed to, and any updates.

                    Perhaps this is it?
                    https://www.calguns.net/search?searchJSON=%7B%22view%22%3A%22topic%22%2C%2 2unread_only%22%3A1%2C%22sort%22%3A%7B%22lastconte nt%22%3A%22desc%22%7D%2C%22exclude_type%22%3A%5B%2 2vBForum_PrivateMessage%22%5D%7D

                    Hope this helps.

What steps have you taken? Curious as an IT guy myself. So you can speak technical.

This is great too hear! I have noticed a big difference today but there are still bugs and I know there is no need to point them out. It would be nice to get a debrief as to what the actual problems were when all is said and done. I want to know just for curiosity sake.

I do electrical troubleshooting and we call these Tamper Monkeys. Usually a maintenance guy or employee opening up cabinets they shouldn't open and start by passing things to get their machine to work. Their work arounds are just plain scary at times.

The site seems faster as now -- 9/17/2024 10:52pm PST. MacOS Monterey 12.7.6, and Safari 17.6.

                            Fingers crossed.

'Message Center' for Private Messages is not functional. If I click on "Inbox", "Sent", "Trash", "Users" on that page it results in a 504 Gateway Timeout error page.
