ignore list doesnt really work?

I dont see what the point of the ignore is if the people you put on the ignore list can still see your threads, post on your threads, and quote your threads and you can still get notifications from them. Is there anyway to make the ignore list like Facebook's ignore function where if you put someone on that list its like the person doesnt exist anymore?

I ignored someone once and it pissed me off because even though I was ignoring them, I would see where they replied to a thread of mine and it would tell me that they replied, but hid their post because they were on the ignore list. So instead of being ignored, it was like a little friend following me around telling me that they were replying here or there and they sent me another pm etc etc etc and then finally I had to rethink WHY I ignored them.

Since I HATE censorship and all that jazz I decided to unignore them after several months and I had to reprogram myself into a new protocol for dealing with people that are douche nozzles (besides me). It is simple, I can choose to respond or not. As a human I have free will and I think it is best that I be able to see all that is going on and decide what battles to fight or when to just sit back and laugh...

But honestly, I do not typically fight with people and even if I did fight with them here, I mean them no ill will and I prefer to look at it as a bunch of guys sitting around the camp fire bagging on each other sometimes. Yeah, some folks can not control themselves, I am not one of those folks although I will argue my points to no end sometimes...

I use ignore to alert me to people I never want to deal with. It's quite helpful.
