Bonetti Road Clean up - July

Please Leave It NRA Klean volunteers will convoy out of the Pollock Pines Safeway Market parking lot (Hwy.50, Exit 60) at 9am on Sat. Aug.22 to clean up target shooting areas and illegal dumping in Our Eldorado National Forest.
Tools, trash bags, cold drinks and sandwiches will be provided.

Please reply if you will help keep these places clean and open, that will help me figure how much stuff to bring. We are usually done by 1pm. You can stay to shoot targets, NOT TREES.

Never having been to this area before and only recently getting back into the Sport I can only say that I would be Pissed as well if I had to see that type of BS every time I went out there. This will go away, never to return if the BS does not change along with a concerted effort by those that frequent the area to clean it up.

If there is still going to be that effort this Month I am in, just let me know when and where. I have a Truck and can haul as much as possible to try and get it in better condition.

I can see what you are saying as I thought the same thing at first. Then I took some time and tried to look at it as the writings of someone that was just fed up with the whole thing. I can see that, I am sure that he would realize that only the people here on this Forum will but up the effort to try and make it right once again.

Nothing is any different here, a few responsible people will have to clean up after a bunch of Losers. Life has always been that way, we just have to decide what side of this we want to be on. As I said I have never been to this area but know that when we have an available place to shoot we need to do all that we can to keep it!!

I see his frustration and I can appreciate it but it's no excuse to insult us. I actually read it several times last night. I even responded, than quickly deleted a comment because I didn't want to get into a possible internet fight because of that post. I read it again this morning and I still took it as an attack and an insult to all of us and I had to challenge him on it.

Casually threatening to try to take away one of my largest sources of enjoyment won't get very far with me and I assume others as well. In fact, I'll fight any petition he files tooth and nail because I enjoy shooting there. I have privately made my own attempts at clean up and have educated other shooters up there to the issues we face. I have never threatened to shut down the area to do it.

I overnight camp there generally twice a month at least and shoot there weekly. It is my favorite place to shoot. (during the season that it is accessible). I taught my son and my nephew to shoot there. I have enjoyed it for years. I generally spend the first 30 plus minutes when I get up there just cleaning.

I get your frustrated, but I'm done listening to you lecture the group. It's one thing to call people out, but threatening the group or cursing at the group, isn't going to fly.

I don't shoot up there, yet I helped put the word out on the last clean up and participated in the clean up. Frankly, with the attitude and your counter productive method of asking for volunteers, I frankly wouldn't give you the time of day.

I live up in El Dorado County, have been going to Bonetti since 1978. I currently live in Pollock Pines. I go to Bonetti all the time and was just there. To be honest, that area is actually the cleanest I have seen it in years. I didn't see any old furniture, appliances, or house hold dumps. The ground is still littered with steel casings and shotty hulls, broken clays, but that's about it. Most of the litter is very small and would require a raking or a young persons lower back for bending over to pick up very small items all day.

This area has been a high school party location, meth head dump, and illegal dumping area for criminals avoiding the costs at the waste transfer station for decades.

Its nice that you are so concerned about this area, as we all should be. Its a wonderful shooting location. But maybe you should take it down a notch and not direct your anger at Cal Guns members. Remember, there are thousands of gun owners residing here that don't know about Cal Guns, some obviously don't practice cleaning up after themselves, and non-gun folks dump trash there.

As for shutting it down, all I can say is don't cut off your nose despite your face. El Dorado county has very few shooting areas already that one can drive to and not have to go hiking to find. Another good spot is Peavine Ridge, but when deer season starts all the hunters use that location as a giant camp ground.

People have been trying to get that area shut down for years, I don't know what makes you feel so special that you would be successful in that endeavor.
