Congrats to the recently licensed and the recently upgraded. As a general class amateur I always enjoy seeing and hearing others become engaged in the hobby.
Once licensed, there are a number of ways that you can become involved with others such as volunteering at events and becoming a disaster volunteer. If you are interested in either, send me a PM and I will get you in touch with someone that can get you involved.
As for the Beofeng, I have had the UV-5R+ for about 6 months now and find it to be a great radio. In fact it has replaced my Yeasu VX-5R on my pack as my go-to radio. If you have one, I highly recommend purchasing the programming cable, as it makes working with it 1,000 times better.-Jedi-Semper ParatusComment

Yesterday I was able to hit a repeater in Lodi and listen in on people from sacramento. I also ordered a yeasu ft-2900 that I'm going to make a base station out of itgive 'em the whole 9 yardsComment

Called this morning and was told they haven't received anything for that testing day. Pete at the arrl said this is not normal, and to contact the ve's. I tried getting a hold of David who does the testing but haven't heard back from him.sigpicComment

This Baofeng UV-5R is $29.00??? Is this price correct? I've been gone awhile but I don't think I was gone THAT long for handhelds to be this cheap. I know it looks like a Chinese brand. Probably won't compare with the Yaesu's, Icoms and Kenwoods of the world... but dang!
