Have you considered any non glock handguns? The M&P Shield is a good option.
If not I would wait to see if the rumors of a single stack 9mm are true...that would make a great carry gun

Great points. I'm left eye dominate but very right handed.

I don't practice left handed shooting enough. Thanks for the reminder. I do try to practice both eyes open for pistol shooting.

Ok, I'm back. I chatted with another associate at the same LGS and I must say, there was lots of hand-wringing - his, not mine! Oh, how could I give up a 10-15 round Glock magazine for a 6-7 round magazine? How could I be used to the Glock and then expect to get used to the little Sig? Why would I give up 9 mm for .380?!? What if my attacker is FAT? How would I ever retrain myself to use the safety?

The guy was so nice, and I could tell he really just wants me to be prepared as best I can be, but I like that little Sig and I think I'm going to have it. If only someone could find it for me in the ambi model.

Oh, and for those of you also wondering aloud about the single stack 9 Glock is rumored to be making, yes, according to this LGS think Jan or Feb of 2015. At least he swears that's what they secretly told him at the SHOT show here in Vegas.

So, tell me more about your little Sig.... And tell me why he believes it to be better than the G42. I'm intrigued.

Thanks, Ladies. Wish I was this popular with the ladies as a teenager Respecting cultural diversity is a big thing nowadays and lady shooters (and lady LE for that matter) are in a sub-culture if their own. Why not nurture another ally to stand beside you VS leaving them as someone who needs to be protected.

Well GG, since you've made your choice of the P238 for various reasons of your own, I'd say just go for it.

As Bonnie alluded to, I also advise training your body to function in any situation/position.

The issue with Sigs and ambi is needing a specialized gunsmith to customize it for you. It'll likely be pricey and you would be better off training your strong side to manipulate the controls i.e. using your index or middle.

Fun fact, I was cross dominant (Right Handed, Left Eye) until I had PRK/Corrective eye surgery performed (20/15 vision!). I'm now right eye dominant. Nuts huh?

Guess what guess what guess what! I called one last LGS to see what their offerings would be, and "'Steve" was very nice and said that he didn't have one in the front, but maybe in the back of the store we would have luck. He said they are really excited at his store about the new wave of female gun owners sweeping the nation. He did not ridicule my .380 caliber and he appreciated that I really favored the "rainbow" finish. He did not accuse me of being shallow for wanting a beautiful gun.

He told me to call back in the morning and they would have an answer for me. Meanwhile, he said I could check out gun broker (I've never done this). I had just found my gun on gun broker when my phone rang and it was Steve, so excited that he had found not one but TWO rainbow ambis in the back! Still in the box, never even touched, pristine pistols all for the taking. He assured me that their prices are very competitive and I'd be happy with the price, which would be available to me tomorrow afternoon after speaking with the owner.

So, tomorrow afternoon, I'll head over and go chat with them and check out that little gun. Oh, so happy!

Look at P938, virtually the same size as a P238. Still smaller than a G42.

We got a whole set of threads on holsters and carry methods for women. Carrying is just DIFFERENT for women, because we curve OUT in the places men usually put a holster.

I'll come back and edit this post with some links, but if you search the Women's Forum on the word "spanx", you'll get there. (Yah, I said spanx, as in spanx camisole with soft holster (not kydex), velcro'd on. The most original idea I've heard in years)

MrsR, I ordered the Crossbreed Appendix holster in natural horsehide. Link: http://www.crossbreedholsters.com/Ho...y/Default.aspx

One of my best friends carries her P238 in this and she gives the holster a perfect 10 for comfort, concealment and adjustability. There isn't anything I like up against my skin better than leather, so I thought this would be a good one. The front of it is kydex custom-molded to the P238, so I won't worry about safety. I've been carrying my Glocks in these: http://www.thewellarmedwoman.com/hol...stband-by-twaw

I don't love the holster. I thought I did, because it was just so dang adjustable. It doesn't even require a belt, if you have a sturdy waistband on your pants. However, the kydex has a lip on the edges and it feels sharp on my body.

I went to 3rd LGS yesterday and they really were so helpful. They repeatedly broke the 4 rules, so that was disappointing, especially since wherever I go, I bring my 2 little boys. I hate people wildly pointing guns and pressing triggers, and never more than when I have my boys with me.

SIDE STORY, IF UNINTERESTED STOP READING HERE: I had set them up with the board game Battleship and crayons and paper, and they were perfect angels the whole time. We almost died laughing when my older son (8) walked up to the counter and handed me a perfect - and I do mean perfect - replica of an assault rifle in blue crayon. It was so good the LGS guy asked to keep it. I wonder if it will get displayed in a prominent place
                            END SIDE STORY HERE

The LGS guy was very familiar with my gun; his girlfriend carries the exact same one in rainbow finish as well. Another man walked into the store and admired the gun because he also carries it. It was unmitigated favor all around! But then they got to thinking. The customer said, "Remember when I bought that Shield? And I *knew* it would be the perfect gun? And one magazine in, I hated it to death?" This was met with solemn head nodding by the LGS. The light bulb went off in both their heads and they said, "Hey! Tomorrow is Ladies' Night at the range! They have your P238! Go fire it and then you can come back and get this gun if you like it!"

Me getting out anywhere without my entourage (my 2 little guys) is almost never accomplished. But I asked my husband if he could come home at a decent time so I could go, and he said sure. 2 minutes later he remembered he has a huge event he must attend. Rats. Well, his (our) best buddy from college lives here in town and when he heard, he said, "I'll watch the kids! You go to the range and have a wonderful time!" The guy is a perfect prince, very handsome and he's never been married, for any single gals who are reading this.

So...I am supposed to go shooting tonight, but I kind of just want to march back and buy that gun and take it to the range tonight. Because, like I said, I never get out, and who knows when I will get back there again? There are instructors on site and food and refreshments and I can hardly wait.

Would you do it? Buy the gun unfired and dance on over to the range? Or would common sense and responsibility prevail?

Thank goodness I have you people. No one else quite understands.

I had a wonderful time at the range yesterday. I got to shoot the Sig AND the G42 and I loved them both. I couldn't miss with either gun, but I shot a hair better with the Glock, probably because that's what I'm used to.

A couple things on the Sig, in case another woman comes here looking for info specific to this gun. 1. Short trigger pull. I knew it was SAO but had no experience. It was a surprise every time I pulled that trigger. I'm used to the looonnngggg pull on my Glocks. I liked it, though. The extra effort to pull Glock triggers sometimes makes me lose a tight control of shot placement. But if you don't have excellent obedience when it comes to following the 4 rules, keep looking. This isn't the gun for you. 2. The trigger has ridges in it, and they rub uncomfortably on the trigger finger. The range owner's wife carries the Sig and he used his Dremel to sand hers down.

There were lots of young women in search of their first gun. They looked overwhelmed but sincere. Most of them seemed interested in Glocks. The range was so hospitable; there was pizza and soda and on-site instructors. No one was patronizing or condescending. What a lovely night.

The next morning I hurried the boys through their homeschool classes and corralled them into the van. We went to the gun shop once again and asked for the Sig P238 in rainbow. It was a very proud moment, as this is my first purchase. I filled out two forms, they looked at my permit, which waived the background check and fee, and after chatting a bit, I walked out of that store with this in my hand.

Also, it matches my glass tile in the pool, so I really did have to have it. I mean, right?
