So side question, thread jack, "that lady cut me off" () j/k however you wanna put it.

When we create the Women on Target artwork for the clinics we use the phrase "Ladies"... so are you finding that offensive? ok? eh? Don't care?

The clinics are for the women, ladies, girls, etc., so..... comments?

For reference, here's our latest one.

my take: I actually like it, ricky-ray.
its clearly for women only: women on target.
      then stated again: women only.

the use of "ladies" is a replacement for a name, for example, "moviezombie, would you like to.....".

I think you've got the best of both worlds in your latest.

I would dislike "ladies on target" and "for ladies only".

I think you've struck the right balance and for all the right reasons.

eta: LOL, CSA! I think many of the male calgunners already think of it as the "cast iron beach's" forum!

In passing, "political correctness" has a purpose. Its purpose is to stamp out derogatory terms for stereotyped people, thereby reducing the stereotype. There is a reason why the N word is not used outside of African American circles any longer, where it was common up until the 70's. Political Correctness is exactly what it sounds like. Language IS political. The politics of language is critically important to how we think about people.

Don't believe it? Go call any minority person, including gay men and women, asians, african americans, native americans, you name it, by a term commonly used in the 1950's. I won't bother to list them here, we all know the words. And after you get up off the ground, think again.

We all teach our children not to call people derogatory names. There's a reason for that, we don't want them to seem like ignorant cretins at pre-school. Name me one politically incorrect term that you would like to hear your ten year old using in public. Name me one. The culture has changed, and for the better, by using respectful terms for all people. How can respect possibly do any harm?

However, if you absolutely insist on proving that you are ignorant and badly raised, persist in calling women "chicks" or other B words of your choice. Use the N word. Use the C word. We'll all understand who you really are.

            Ignorant cretins? I resemble that!

I don't get it. All this because somebody used the term "lady". Sheesh.

If you still don't get why language is important, see my post immediately above. If you still don't get it after that, call me and I'll explain it. -- Again.

apparently i am sending mixed messages...

Women on Target is vanilla but Refuse to be a Victim really irks me - smells like we are pre-labelled and works on a fear based factor. How about calling it: Victim, my Azz - and i do apologize in advance for not being ladylike in my my vocabulary.

Not needing any explanation. Your point taken and I disagree. That doesn't make me wrong nor ignorant.

                          so...

in the original tv show ironside the white dude in the wheelchair was always being pushed around by a black dude.

in the new ironside tv show it is a black dude in the wheelchair but he has to push himself around.

                          what's up with that?!

Off-topic. You're going to start a discussion on race and politics and that wasn't the original intention of this thread (which was the discussion about how women at CalGuns can/should be addressed).

Deleted as promised. Honestly, i was trying for a little deflection (as well as getting that question answered) because the tone of this seems to be starting to go downhill. anyone from the outside meandering onto this thread is going to get to read a good bunch of females spending their time and efforts getting their ovaries in a knot over the term "Lady/Ladies." Really? This is kind of the opposite of what i have been "hearing" on how the women of calguns want to be perceived. *shakes head* my ever-creative brain can just see the OT thread now: "Cat Fight Over Term "Ladies" + link" and the guys would all click on it because in their brains cat fights always have the potential for boobage and they aren't gonna be the one who missed it and have to hear about it from some other guy later on.

Agreed completely. Lots of over reactions in this thread. I will refrain from calling anyone a "lady" in the future. I never realized it was like calling someone the "N" word. (Head slap)
