I realize that the majority of calguns members are men, and some are pretty conservative, but hey this is the 21st century and you don't call women "ladies" if you want to be taken seriously by women.

well, back when Mr K started this forum and was asking for input re the name I chimed in with "I'm a woman not a lady" but apparently he decided to name it what he wanted. it is his forum and his website so who are the rest of us to argue?! got a problem with it? take it up with Mr K."The theory that a woman found dead in an alley, raped and strangled with her own pantyhose, is somehow morally superior to a woman explaining to police how her attacker got that fatal bullet wound."-- as seen on a t-shirt

Back in the 50's and before a MAN, especially a Gentleman, referred to a woman by a title that showed respect and class.
She is a Lady.
Prior to that in history, women were given a title that conveyed class, authority and standing and commanded respect.
The Lady XXXXX.
You'll forgive me if I'm a bit old school, I open doors for my Wife, pull out her chair and generally treat her like the Lady she is.
And I do the same for others as well.
Honestly I find it amazing that anyone would have an issue with a proper title or see it as a slight. It would be like taking offense to someone referring to a man as 'Sir'.sigpic NRA Benefactor Life Member / CRPA Life Member / SAF Life Member

Being a lady is not mutually exclusive with being a woman. Certainly not all women are ladies, which is a description of behavior. I am always a woman and sometimes I'm a lady. Sometimes I'm a Range-master. Some times I'm a cast-iron b***h. Women have many roles in life.
OP, politically I think you are right. But I do think that Kestryl was trying to attract as many women as possible at the time and thought 'ladies' would cover it best.
Just in passing, contrary to the military and law-enforcement "female" is a description of anatomy, not of humans and it sets my teeth on edge. Why do some people just have such a hard time with saying "woman"?
But thanks for asking the question. Good one.Last edited by BonnieB; 09-13-2013, 6:30 PM.WHAT I HAVE LEARNED SO FAR, MOSTLY THE HARD WAY

Funny story about the context of the way someone is addressed.
I had was participating in a program geared to inner city middle and high school girls (I was a speaker not one of the girls).
The girls kinda took to me because I wasn't in a suit looking like their mom or a teacher. Instead I was in jeans/hoodie and I have a piercing. Basically my theme was go to college because if you do you can get a cool job like being a video game developer.
At the end of the program they were asking the girls what they thought and opinions. One of the girls got up and was complimenting me but couldn't remember my name and didn't know I was in the room. She said "the lady, well not really a lady... the chick that was in room B..."
Another speaker behind me who was in a suit and definitely had the 'mom' look to her said under her breath to the other speaker beside her, "I want to be a 'chick'!".
So it's all in context.

yep, it is all context, kali.
I may not always be a lady but i'm always one hell of a woman!"The theory that a woman found dead in an alley, raped and strangled with her own pantyhose, is somehow morally superior to a woman explaining to police how her attacker got that fatal bullet wound."-- as seen on a t-shirt

Hmmm. I never really thought about it much. Call me a woman, lady, gal, sista, Kiddo (and I’m 49)…whatever. As previous posters said, it’s the context of what’s being said and how it’s said that’s important to me. (To be called kiddo, say, by an elderly gentleman just makes me smile.Comment

I don't give a flying......oh wait, that isn't "lady like".
I really could care less unless it is meant in a derogatory manner.
Do men care if we call them gentlemen, dudes, men or guys? ......whatever.
I just really don't care unless they aren't my husband and they call me sweetie or something.
I don't expect everything handed to me. Just set it down anywhere. UnknownComment
