As for the advice about the significant other, sorry but I just can't do that. I doubt that he would give me bad advice or habits that would do me or anyone harm. None the less as a precaution we are both going to take the hand gun safety class which is free ( I think). Thank you for your consideration and concern for my safety as well as others.

For the glock comment.........um nope! Sorry not right now. I know that it is similar in look some what, and I'm sure that they both shoot great. But you have to actually like the way the gun looks also. If it just dose not appeal to you why buy it only to regret it later.

Here are some pics of me shooting my XD with the fire from the ports.
It's not that he would give you bad advice or habits. It's simply that one's spouse does not make a good teacher as we tend to have less patience with our family and or those closest to us. It really is best to seek somone else to teach you. I'm a firearms instructor and I don't instruct my wife for those reasons. It will keep you shooting longer and happier and married longer and happier as well! Shoot together, by all means but seek formal instruction elsewhere.

            Hello LadyLike,

Check out the website http://corneredcat.com/ by Kathy Jackson.

She has great articles on gun safety, handling and mindset.

The website is geared for ladies, but the articles are excellent for everyone.

Hope somebody's corrected your grip. Putting the weak/left thumb under the strong/right palm has to be uncomfortable, to say the least, and obstructs the strong hand hold. Basically your thumbs ought to line up, with the weak/left thumb underneath the strong/right thumb.

Check out Julie Golob's hand positioning ...

... Yes, her left/weak hand is quite a bit forward than yours ought to be as a new shooter. But as a competitive shooter, she's also been shooting awhile and has developed her own style.

Actuallly that is the grip I most often teach to new shooters...minds as well get their grip correct before they develop bad habits

The second picture is the old thumbs up grip, but with the thumbs pointing forward...it is what folks think thumbs forward is...and is a by-product of the Weaver grip/stance.

Julie is shooting thumbs forward paired with the Isosceles arm geometry...it allows the same accuracy and faster followup shots without taking a beating from the recoil/muzzle flip

That's interesting, Tang. You're teaching newbie's the competitive grip.

I'll have to try it myself one of these days.

So it looks like the weak hand (palm) barely touches the strong hand (palm)? And there's still that pull-push thingee going on?

Yup, if they can straighten out their thumb/wrist...not everyone can...I teach them the optimal grip to start.

I should have thought of you when I was down seeing my son at the beginning of Oct, we could have gone shooting...I just don't plan ahead well.

The support palm fills in the space between the strong hand's fingers and base of the thumb. The difference is that you then extend...not just point... the support thumb toward the target. There is no push/pull going on...that is a Weaver thing...the uneven force vectors limit the guns ability to return to the original POA as it returns from muzzle flip

                      Well, till next time.

Great info as usual, Tang! Thanks for sharing.

Nice gun and welcome. I do have to agree with getting formal instruction and fixing your grip. That is a very important fundamental however its just one of five. We teach classes designed for women if you are interested.
