Good method for conceal carry while running?

    Hi ladies!

Do any of you conceal carry while running? I'm looking for a good way to carry on my runs and was curious if any of you have a method that works well for you. A fanny pack is an obvious choice, but I wasn't sure if there were any other options.

    Thanks!

I don't carry while I am running, but I use the Nathan hydration belt and it has a pocket big enough for my gu, cell phone, and a small pocket knife. The pocket knife could also go in the key pocket in my shorts.

I do not run with ear buds because I think it is important to be aware of your surroundings. I also try to run with at least one other person and my dog. Also iphone has a great app that will notify someone if you are not back from your run in time. I don't have an iphone, so I am sticking with my dog and just letting someone know where I am.

When I go for long trail runs I use a backpack made by Golite. It does not bounce around and has plenty of space. Unfortunately it would still leave you scrambling for the gun....So not much help.

The only problem I see with carrying on a run, or any other time for that matter, is if you are not prepared the gun could be used against you as well.

How sad is it that as you are trying to improve your health you have to worry about someone threatening your life?

You might want to look into a product like this. http://www.pistolwear.com/ Basically it is an adjustable elastic band with a pocket for your firearm. The material on the body side is soft. Virtually, invisible under a loose fitting shirt/shorts.
May I always be the type of person my dog thinks I am

Yes, I had this problem too.

          I couldn't get a CCW so I carry a KABAR.

I find if one straps the plastic sheath onto your thigh it actually is quite comfortable, but the leather sheath doesn't work as well.

I was going to suggest a fanny pack, but the other options mentioned look effective as well.

If you go the fanny pack route and your gun doesn't have a manual safety, you might want to consider sewing a traditional holster inside of it that covers the trigger guard. Just as an added safety precaution. I am huge Glock and Khar fan. But when you start getting into untraditional carry methods there is a lot to consider regarding safety.

Certain Camelbak models are made specifically for CCW while running/exercising.

I can't find the exact model on their website but I had one a few years ago that had the bladder pocket + 1 slim pocket that could hold a full size 1911 + 1 mag and unzipped on either side so you could reach behind you and have access to your weapon without taking off the pack.

I'm not a gal, but the Flashbang holster may work.

From links in my Crime Avoidance & Self-Defense Advice sig line link.

If you try it, I'd use a very light pistol/revolver so that its weight does not make it come out of the holster due to the bouncing involved w/running. Probably best to get in contact w/the manufacturer first and ask them if it is suitable for running and even if they say "yes," try it out w/your HGN empty several times just to be safe before using it to carry a loaded HGN.

Thank you for the suggestions. Spanky- the Pistol Wear looks interesting, and I think I may try it. I started using a fanny pack, which is working, but I like the idea of having something more concealed. Though a fanny pack may not scream 'gun' out on a run as much as it might in public, it would be great to find an alternative. A Camelbak option probably wouldn't be my first choice with the gun being on my back and much harder to reach quickly.

Ginger- I'm with you on the ear buds. I usually go without them, but I occasionally will put one in my ear if I need some extra motivation to get through the run.

Tactical city- Thank you for pointing out the safety concerns, and that was certainly a key point when choosing a fanny pack. I don't own any Glocks, though I have used a Glock 23 a few times now. I haven't crossed over and bought one...yet, but a Glock 17 may be in my future!

                    :O)

I hated my pistolwear hoster. Couldn't get my gun out in a remotely safe amount of time. Going to try a bellyband or 5.11 fanny pack.

*edit* as of today i've been wearing the pistol wear for around a week. Can't figure out a better method as of now, so when I run or am at the gym I just put it in the pistolwear holster without one in the chamber of my glock 26. It holds it securely and it stays dry. still slow to get out though but better than nothing.

Blackhawk also makes a fanny pack.

I've been using 5.11 cvrt small pack for this week since I just got it, material is less abrasive on my skin, compared to Maxpedition and such, I really like it, and I don't have an issue of bouncing, I tighten the strap all the way put it over shoulder, and I can draw in a really quick manner, just practice practice practice. But you will notice the weight of your fire arm with it, I am using a Glock 26, spare mag. I am going to try this weekend a 19 with m/light and a spare mag to see how the weight is, I also carry a folder on my side, weight is obvious, but I am used to carrying this stuff, so I am ok with it, guess if you go this route youd have to adjust too.

no john...this would not work! there is already too much giggling in 'that' area already. that plus there is no sweat protection there.

I have only jogged a couple of times with my gun and that is because i bought a belly band and i wanted to try it. +1 for belly bands! that actually works. if you sweat a lot (i dont ever work out so hard to sweat that much) you will have to probably clean your gun each time.

i have just run on my highschool (that i graduated from) track when there are still students running there and when it is well lit, and leave my gun in the car. I don't do street running. it is just too hard to stay aware. no zoning out, no ipod, no secluded streets, have to change routine. etc., etc. my dad warned me about all of that and it is just too much of a headache.
