Springfield 1911 EMP 9mm maybe (small frame)? Or a Springfield 1911 Loaded 9mm (full size frame)?

1911s are great for people with small hands because their single stack design allows for narrower/smaller grip. Most other semi-autos are double stack and have thick grips. I have fairly small hands, and I've simply learned to adapt. As it turns out the manual of arms the teach you during self defense training make things like the slide release useless anyway. You wrack the slide rather than trying to find that tiny little button, because with all that adrenaline you'll loose all fine motor skills. You train for the worst, so you will do your best.

While I would not turn down an H&K USP, Walther P99QA, or XD...my first two choices would always be a Glock or 1911.

It is not about being a sheep, as one very uninformed person suggested (as I am more lion than lamb). It is about understanding how a firearms design and functionality will benfit you in an actual firefight. You can have the most unique, coolest looking firearm in the world...but if it trips you up when the moment comes and gets you killed...then what good is it?

      This!

While I do like my Sigs in 9mm (226 and 239), I LOOOVE my 9mm 1911 (Kimber Stainless).
The mag is single stack so it fits in my small female hand wonderfully, and the heft and weight of the frame absorb a ton of recoil so my accuracy is much better, and I don't get frustrated at not hitting the target lol!

When I was first getting into shooting I tried a Beretta 92 and hated it. The slide was hard to rack, and the recoil was super "snappy". Now I have no problem with it but I had no interest in shooting it for a long time. But that's just me.

So I highly recommend trying a 1911 out if you get a chance

TY Lulu (that's my daughter's nickname!) I have actually been so tired with this pregancy and chasing after my daughter that I don't really miss it until my hubby and his buddy head out to the range.

Wow! It's been awhile since I have checked on my thread. Thanks again for all the great tips and suggestions. I have some solid leads now and I will be sure to let you all know what I choose. I dunno what it will be just yet, but I know it will be perfect for me

My 19 yr old daughter shot her first USPSA match with my 1911 9mm single stack. Low recoil, cheaper to shoot, easy slide to rack and just fun to shoot for everyone. If you didn't like it it wouldn't last in the "sale" section of this forum for long.

Ha, my real name is Lauren and my nickname is Lulu! Too funny! It was given to me when my nephew was born. When he first started talking, it was hard for him to pronounce Lauren, so my family decided that my new name would be Lulu HAHA.
Yeah, I guess I wouldn't miss it until my man went out shooting without me
                Soon enough though!
                Good luck!

I recently shot with a Glock 19, Sig P229, XD9 Service, and a PX4 Storm. IMO, the Glock 19 felt the best in my small hands (I wear a size XS women's gloves) and felt the easiest to control.
