    VampiressRN

Newbie to guns and board. I am in Lincoln, north of Rocklin and Roseville. Next week I plan on becoming a member at http://www.capitalgunclub.com/ which is in Roseville. At some point in time I will have to get over to the Lincoln Gun Shop as Randy has been helpful with my purchase challenge. I'm crazy busy at work through the end of this year but can slip in some shooting time on Sat or Sun. Looking forward to finding the right gun for me and gaining knowledge and skills for self defense.

I posted in your other thread over in the handguns threat but a big Welcome to you here.

BonnieB is in your area and in your age group....she won't mind my saying so. she would be a great woman to connect with for range time, advice re buying another pistol, etc. she will also be helpful re choosing a training class or two.

for the record: VampiressRN posted that she has a Taurus revolver over in that other forum/thread here on calguns but is looking for a "girly" gun. response was overwhelming to keep the Taurus and rent rent rent before buying something else.

suggestions re changing grips on her Taurus were also made...grips that might be wood, pearlized, etc.

and where is that thread here in the LF re those pretty rainbow colored Sigs with matching knives?!

anyway, welcome to this corner of calguns! you will find that most of us don't believe "in the one" when it comes to pistols, have more than one, and there are even some shotgun shooters around as well.

      most important: have fun!

Thanks Zombie...everyone on this board has been very helpful. I will check her out.

Still working on getting the hang of how to post a picture on this board, just a little slow on the uptake but I will eventually get it.

Thanks ElvenSoul. I used to be into the whole Vampire thing and I'm a nurse so there ya go. I have used that names for over 20 years, so just sticking with it.

Finally found the edit button and the main threads I will be able to post in. I also applied to the "Well Armed Women" to see if there is a chapter close to me. The video about that organization was delightful and encouraging.

VampiressRN: my mom was a nurse. She spent a couple of years as an IV therapy nurse and would tell patients she took the job because she was a vampire and needed all the blood she could get.

I live a bit south of you in Stockton. I would not mind letting you try out my handguns but I do not think they are what you are looking for. I have a variety of the boring black Glocks. I wished they came in different colors, but they are made in Austria and the German mindset is they work, why do they need to be different colors. Polymer guns are supposed to be black.

Welcome to the shooting sports and as others have said, try out as many guns as you can to find the one that fits you and works for you. There are so many available now that it is not hard to find one that works well for you. Do not settle for what someone else says is the best one for you. You will know it when you shoot it.
Anyone can look around and see the damage to the state and country inflicted by bad politicians.

A vote is clearly much more dangerous than a gun.

Why advocate restrictions on one right (voting) without comparable restrictions on another (self defense) (or, why not say 'Be a U.S. citizen' as the requirement for CCW)?

Polymer is a sort of Satanic witch-brew creation; dreamed up by Nazi engineers in lab coats and jackboots, distilled from a cloned extract of Richard Nixon's blood. I remember one night in Vegas, at an impromptu drug fueled orgy with NFL cheerleaders in matching fringe synthetic Taiwanese sweatshop leather cowboy boots, who I suspect were COINTELPRO secret agents of some clandestine fascist branch of Nixon's power structure, I wound up firing a Glock at some of the finest grapefruits one could imagine that had been placed on the balcony railing of my suite at the Sands.

I can tell you that there is nothing in this horrid, industrial-pimped planet, quite so fine as a perfect grapefruit- to be enjoyed with Canadian bacon, expertly ground and brewed black coffee, and Peruvian cocaine. Suffice it so say, if you have never randomly discharged a handgun in an expensive hotel suite, while pulling a righteous burn on the room service bill, and with a fair amount of mescaline alkaloid bonding to the neurons in the parts of the brain responsible for rational thought, then you have missed out on the complete Las Vegas experience.

I remember the strangeness of the polymer frame- smooth like the still, dark scorched motor oil surface of the void where Nixon's conscience should have resided, after ordering the napalming of entire swathes of Southeast Asian countryside. That strange trigger, with a microscopic protuberance jutting rudely out of the middle of it, rather like a 1:1 scale model of a typical Neocon schlong. A strange form of fear washed over me, as though by merely grasping the evil thing I was somehow marked; corrupted. I staggered to the bathroom for more ether, and in the midst of it all, through growing tunnel vision, punctuated by the sounds of the Jefferson Airplane that reverberated through the hotel room wall, I saw my hair falling out and a thick, custodial broom like moustache growing on my face. Like a werewolf transforming under a full moon, there I was! YE F***ING GODS- I was transforming into G. Gordon Liddy!

Avoid the polymer evil. Certain canines and tiger sharks can sense it, and will plague you at the beach.

Find a metallic ballistic launcher of Divine Whoop-A**. I recommend also finding a very fast car, preferably a convertible, beware deserted desert highways at night at low speeds. Bloodless, fungal like creatures from Mars prowl them. Speed and firepower are your bosom companions- throw the wheel to the port side and ram the bastards with that shining bumper!!! Fire away one handed with a strange joy in your heart.

Volks...such s thoroughly wonderful post I had to read it again.

I dropped the Mother Unit off at the grocery store and eagerly headed over to the gun club to sign up as a member. Sadly it was closed but website said open. Maybe the upcoming holiday prompted the close. Sad...but I will read more Intel here and gaze at my Taurus pistol later this afternoon.

Hello OP. If I may suggest - try out Lincoln Rifle Club. I find the outdoor range to be excellent and the RSOs to be good. It is definitely a lot closer to home and a lot less pretentious than capital gun club. I am usually shooting at the trap matches 3x a month. Great group of people and very welcoming.
