I recently got all my permits. I'm in Hemet, CA but am willing to drive or relocate for the right job. I have My guard card, exposed firearm permit, baton permit, pepper spray certification and all necessary gear. I'm 6'1 250lbs. The last year and a half has been a struggle job wise. I have a passion for protection so this job wouldn't even feel like work for me. I don't need amazing pay. I just need to get to work. The more active I am in the job the better. Nightclubs, bars, apartments etc. It's all fine by me.

Casinos or CA card rooms tend to have a high turn over rate and are often hiring. I worked for one as a security guard for a year up in northern California. Pay for and armed officer would probably start around $15/hour and you are pretty much guaranteed full time since they are open 24 hours. You get time on your feet on the gaming floor, surveillance experience, alcohol sales, and you deal with cash all the time which shows trustworthiness on a resume. Its also interesting because of all the people you deal with, plus you get to learn all the games. Depending on the casino's policies, tips make life just that much better. Might be something to look into.sigpic -

More great recommendations, thanks.
In regards to becoming a LEO, everyone tells me I look like a cop or should be a cop. Taxation is theft and enforcing government rules is aggression, so I have little interest in being a cop. Private security is legitimate security because they violate no one and only require payment from those that voluntarily contract with them. Ever wonder why a security guards less respected? The answer is that they aren't given the government nod to aggress people. If a security guard can't do it, it's because it violates the "rights" of someone.
A little update: I am now working an unarmed post, 3rd shift, near my house $10/hr. It's relatively boring but at least I'll have security related work to put on my resume now. I'm still looking for armed work of course. Something with foot patrols or some kind of physical activity, is ideal.Last edited by kentactic; 01-30-2015, 12:17 AM.Comment

Consider joining the reserve branch of the military. I did security for a few years, I went into the National Guard and doing that alone will open alot more jobs security wise. You should look into some DoD contractors or federal positions, without military experience its hard to get into. But not impossible. I'm not talking about Blackwater, or SOC, or contractor work. But rather General Atomics, or Boeing etc. More of less static security at the property, they're usually armed gigs that pay upwards of 15/hour with full benefits. If you work for a fly by night PPO, they're usually unstable and on the verge of loosing accounts. So naturally their employees suffer financially because of that."All that is complex is not useful. I have been working security for a few years. Heres what i have learned
In-House positions are almost always better.
Try casinos, hotels, theme parks, hospitals that hire their own security, pay is better and usually offer benefits.
Majority of jobs are for contractors. You will not get paid well, the company will not care about you, and there is probably none or extremely poor benefits. Benefit is you have different options for what site you would like to work, and theres always OT opportunities.
Go online and apply for the big ones first, i would not recommend small craigslist security companies
Biggest contractors:
Securitas
Allied Barton
G4S
Loomis
Dunbar
Brinks
Garda
Andrews International
Contractors are revolving doors, they are ALWAYS hiring. Especially in larger metropolitan areas. You should be able to get hired in less than a month...Last edited by Eldraque; 02-17-2015, 6:15 PM.Comment

Thanks for the replies guys. Regarding military work, again, I'm not interested in accepting stolen wealth for my paycheck. Government jobs are easily acquired but you sacrifice morality. If I was ok with robbing people for my paycheck I'd be a veteran cop by now.
A little update. I've been working as an armed guard for a medical marijuana dispensary. The pay is quite poor and the risk is quite high but I'm getting experience for the resume. No pain no gain. I'm happy to put in the work because my efforts will pay off at some point. I'm certainly still looking for better work, but I am working so it's not all bad.Last edited by kentactic; 02-17-2015, 10:20 PM.Comment
