    state and federal jobs

I know it was suggested before, but a job in public service is very secure and often hiring: google USAJOBS, or go to: jobs.ca.gov. then pull down the agency list and select each one to see if there are open positions in the multitude of dept's and agencies in our state.

look for a landscaping company that might be hiring. it might be hard work, but they are usually hiring good workers and you get to be outside all the time.

you could also advertise on craigslist to clean people's homes for some money on the side. My roommate's friend started doing this with some success.

I met a girl the other day who got bored at home all the time while her husband was working, so she advertised in her apt/condo complex that she would walk people's dogs, feed their cats, etc. when the owners weren't there. Of course this only works if you trust your neighbors and they trust you, but she said she walks 13 dogs per week!

apply for stocking positions at major retailers: toy-r-us, target, walmart, etc. I worked as a stock guy at bath and body works years ago and ended up networking with other stores while on the job, resulting in a second stocking job with a neighboring mall shop.

UPS? my friend says they hire often, but i have no experience with them.

If you go fast food: In-n-Out, Chick-fil-a, subway, togo's, jersey mike's.

the first thing i would probably try is getting hired at my local turner's outdoorsman! get your guns back OP!!!

Costco. Though its probably competitive, but worth it since you have some education under your belt.

I have a buddy who works for a chevron gas station during graveyard shifts and he says they always look for good grave yard people.

These are all suggestions that I would pursue personally if I had the need. Good Luck though OP, I searched for a job constantly for over a year before finding anything in my field. any longer, and I would have been going down this list (not necessarily in this order...)

If I think of some other good ones, I'll update. I did work for a temp agency once called Corelink, but not sure if they are still around.

Have you thought of trying one of the trade unions like boilermakers or pipefitters?

It seems like they make a good living and having a trade can't hurt in life!

OP, postal service! Seriously, they just picked up HUGE contract w/ amazon and are in need. Carrier friend told me about the amazon thing a month ago. Two weeks ago, they blanketed the town w/ generic "we're hiring" cards in every mailbox, saw 'em advertising at the PO too.

Worth a shot, I think. Good luck to you and God bless you

Have a friend call your references to make sure you're getting an accurate reference. I always attach a cover letter with a resume if I can, just to add personality.

I have been working three unreliable jobs. Subbing, tutoring and with event stafing/security

It isn't enough...If I have any expense at all, the stak will fall down. It is staving off failure to pay bills/credit card, that is it. Worse, the last of those had me on 12 hr overnight shifts. Apparently I don't get overtime. Barely above minimum wage, and I have to drive 50 miles round trip...oh, and they told e I wa scheduled in the same place for the rest of month...last night was not on the schedule and was sent home, wasting $10 easily in gas. Subbing is here and there and tutoring kida of just died out. Couldn't meet the demands made (hours, bad pay, long distance) and the few sessions I have had were short time gigs.

I am hoping not being unemployed will help with getting another, more stable job. Even $10 hr, if reasonably close, if full time would be far better.

What are your degree's in?? Just asking since that is very relevant.

A degree in accounting is better than a degree in fine arts, for example.
