I sorely need a job, any job

I am flat broke. I am even out of credit. And I have pawned or sold my guns save one (my first). And even selling that would just let me pay on more month of a couple of bills.

I am educated. I have a college degree. I went to grad school. Did all the work for two masters save a thesis. While on thesis, I decided I didn't want any more government loans. Got job offers, moved to where they were. Everything fell apart. Got temp work, substitute teaching and starting applying to every job I could do. Had some work, but not enough to pay all the bills. So I moved back home with my parents, after 10 years on my own.

I spend most of my days applying for jobs. I work some oddjobs, but most of those dried up. My degrees stalled as I didn't want more debt, but I forgot that withdrawing even temporarily meant bills were due. I got suckered by the State of CA getting certified for substitute teaching only to find most districts demand full credentials for even substitutes in my area.

I desperately need a job, any job. I have worked as a janitor. I have done accounting work for a nonprofit. I have been a host and busboy in a restaurant. I have done tons of clerical work, and I have managed classrooms of children from 1st grade through 12th. I do have some limited physical disability on one side of my body, but for 99% of jobs that doesn't matter.

I live in the San Gabriel Valley. I am willing and able to commute (as long as I come out ahead after gas and pay). I take jobs seriously. And the duty to earn the wage I am working for. I cannot continue this way. I apply to every job I can, but nothing. So I am asking anyone out there, do you have a job I could do? I am not picky.

I have never been on welfare, no unemployment. No SSI. I am thinking that is my only route if I don't get a job pronto. I don't want to live like that. I want to work. So, if you can, help a brother out?

Temp agencies work wonders. Some places are temp to hire. Just got to get the foot in the door.

even worse problem now is that the market is sooooo flooded with applicants (for all types of work), that companies realized they can pay $8.75/hr for a $20/hr job....and still get a ton of willing qualified dependable people turn up for it.
If you suck with irons you will suck with optics. The difference is the aimpoint will allow you to suck faster and a scope will give you a closer look at how much you suck.

Any recommendations for temp agencies? I had a few when I was in VA that actually gave me jobs. Here, not so much luck. The only consistent ones to send me offer seem to consistently think I am in Riverside. Had a few interesting talks about that.

No tats. And I am more likely to overdress for an interview than the other way.

I am surprised that with welding experience you would have a hard time? I was told (perhaps wrongly) that welders were in short supply...then again that was a friend in North Dakota.

I'll give you an example. I do security consulting and event management.
The consulting ranges from personal, residential, venue security.
I just finished a run with a company called Staffpro. They are based in Huntington Beach but have cores in all areas.
I was on the executive management team helping to pick up accounts.
For example, I helped pick up Coachella, Stagecoach, EDC in Vegas, all Nocturnal/Insomniac events. Full time USC positions, the Shrine Auditorium, the LA Fairgrounds and many more. Long Beach Grand Prix is an annual gig as is the LA Auto Show. I just helped the company with their first year (this year) doing the Rose Parade. It's a big account and work will be 24/7 for weeks. Contact the corporate office and tell them you want to get in on upcoming events.
If you get any grief or hurdles. PM me and I'll sort you out. Good luck
Staffpro. Okay. I will check that out.

Manpower. They usually have jobs ready for anyone with an open schedule.

I feel for you man. Good luck. I hope you make plenty of money.

                          OP: A few things-

                          1. I know the state of Nevada is hiring. Please check out their NEATS website.

                          2. Check out this FREE job search engine- www.indeed.com

                          3. Go on unemployment if you have to. Anything to get you by.

                          Good luck

I have used indeed.com for quite sometime. As well as most job search engines.

Unemployment...don't qualify. I don't think. My last legit job in California was part time while in school. And I don't think the various oddjobs I have done (which have been above board afaik, wasn't cash slipped under the table) qualify me. They didn't last I looked. I would be able to get disability. But for the same reasons I have avoided a handicapped placard I will only as an absolutely last result. My disability is minor and I have had people know me for years without noticing (leg brace and limited used of one arm). I hate getting beneficial treatment when it hardly impedes me.

OP- What about Home Depot or Lowes? Or the state of California (www.spb.ca.gov) They seem to be hiring often.
