Every shop does it differently i guess. DOJ answers differ every time you call them lol.

I'm guessing because it's a template where the only data they change is at the top. I don't even use the signature box since the PC says to put the thumbprint on the back so I continue to do that.

The DOJ isn't the brightest. There's many issues with their form.

    1) They still force you to mark a FSD Compliance choice even though you may not know what the customer is doing at the time of DROS.
    2) They still don't have a good set of manufacturers
    3) Mfg: Russia and Mfg: Russia, 1st one bad, 2nd one good
the list goes on with other issues with the DES system.. the 2nd thumbprint box is among them.
    etc...

I shudder to think what folks would do if the box on the Delivery paperwork said "Blood Sample" and the DOJ said "Yup, we need it now"..

Giving them a couple of extra dollars per DROS also doesn't take any longer, but I'm not going to do that either.

Where do they say that a thumbprint is required at pickup? It is required at the start, as stated in the CA PC.

Because it is the same form for the start, as well as the release. There is actually no requirement that you print out the form a second time. You can put the release date and time, then have the customer sign it and then you sign it again.

What about getting the 2nd thumbprint because you are OCD and it bugs you to have the empty box?

Who honestly cares, I sure don't. It's a simple signature and thumbprint. If you are super against the DOJ and getting a stupid release print and sig then do what you want. It's not like it's a blood sample lol

The signature is required by law.

The first thumbprint is required, but it would be nice to know where it is claimed a second one is required. Customers don't like ink on their thumb.

I actually asked about this and have the name of the person I talked to + her supervisors name, permission to note date/time of the conversation upon the answer that, no, we do not have to get the fingerprint at pickup.

I've had to do the fingerprint deal many times for DROSes and never once had an issue with "ink on the thumb". All the dealers I deal with use those inkpads where you just rub your fingers together and the ink disappears from your thumb.

                    something like this, http://www.officedepot.com/a/product...print-Ink-Pad/

I have customers that look at their thumb and say "your inkpad is dry this isn't going to work".. and then I ask them to please give it a try and I get this wonderful expression on their faces like it's magic...

I have an inkless pad, but they don't seem to like it much. It is better than ink, but I know of FFLs who use ink.

                            New DROS firearm release procedures?

I have not had a single issue with getting a finger print. Half the time it is just laughter at the stupidity of the state... If someone is really upset about having to do 1 or even 2 fingerprints then they are going to be really bummed out when they go to another store and find out it's the same everywhere.

the firearm business attracts some rather interesting people....

The issue that I have seen is not with giving the thumbprint, but dealing with either the ink or the inkless, kind of like touching something that you don't like and don't know what to do to get it all off of their thumb. I think part of it is the feel of the inkless on the skin (who knows what chemicals are in that) or having the ink, which could get on something else, or at least they feel that way even after wiping it off with something.
