    New DROS firearm release procedures?

    Hi,
I was at my FFL's yesterday and we were talking about the new DROS procedures. My FFL said that now when a firearm is released to it's owner after the exact-to-the-minute 10 day wait period, before it's released, he has to log on to the DOJ website and get approval to release the firearm to the new owner. Is this accurate and if it is, why if the new owner has already gone through the background process?

    Yes 's true.

Your FFL is logging the delivery time mostly. It is a added step in the process but I have it down to about a 2 min process. So not a huge time eater for my costumers.

Thank you. Hopefully the case is won and finalized against the 10 day waiting period for current gun owners.

Not that I agree with the process, but it ensures that the FFL checks that the buyer was approved, as well as ensuring that the delivery was within the required time period. This also means that FFLs who demand an 11 day waiting period have nothing to explain why as they can not make a mistake and release it early.

And DOJ wants another release fingerprint/signature on the approval as well to verify the same person bought the gun is picking up the gun.

Where did you see this requirement? I realize it's on the form, but I don't think it's in the PC. No other FFL I know of is getting secondary thumbprints.

There is no requirement of a second thumbprint that I am aware of. The second signature is required, as well as the date and time of release, but that is it.

Then why do they have a thumbprint box next to the required signature on release?

Every shop does it differently i guess. DOJ answers differ every time you call them lol.

The DOJ has said on several occasions that a new signature and thumb print is required. I don't THINK this is supported by PC but we are doing it....

                          + 1.

If it's on the form take the 10 seconds for a finger print...not a big deal.

Better have it then not need it then not have it and get raped when an audit comes.

Second fingerprint doesnt' take any longer than getting the signature, so we're doing it just to be on the safe side.
