    First time PPT question

I don't know where to post this, so sorry if this is wrong place. Please let me know and I'll remove it and post it somewhere else.

Who pays DROS and other fees?
Do you get a copy of transaction form/s (form/s you both signed for transer)?
Any advice will be appreciated. Thank you

Usually the buying party pays the fees unless otherwise negotiated. As a seller u don't really get any kind of paperwork but maybe u can ask for a copy and see if your ffl has something for you. Hope that helps

So when everything is done, you walk away with no proof of sale. Isn't that dangerous because if the gun you've just sold was use to commit a crime then I'll be in big big trouble? Pardon my ignorance, never done this before so please understand my wild imaginations.

The FFL has given me a copy of the DROS paperwork for every PPT I have done.

You will get a copy of the paper you sign.

Do yo have to make an appointment with LGS/FFL before going in?

One nagging question, how do you protect yourself or better yet how do I know that the buyer is not going to hit me in the head with my own gun? It seems stupid question but I have no experience in selling gun/s through PPT. Thank's for your patience.

            Appreciate the input guys.

If everything being done is legal, legal firearm at FFL and both parties are not prohibited, there is no reason why you cannot create your own record of sale.

I, Joe Bob Gunlover, CDL#___________, sell one super shiny polished pea shooter, #blah blah blah, to one Henry the Hunter, CDL#___________,
on 00/00/20xx, at such and such FFL, in wonderful Blahtown, Blahstate.
(I will leave it to you to do research and actually pin down said wonderful town in this state.)

                Signature buyer Date

You do not hand over your gun to the buyer directly; you give it to the dealer and he (dealer) keeps it for 10 days before releasing to the buyer. Also since the transaction is done through the dealer it takes place at the dealer's shop which is public place with at least few people always present. So this is pretty safe. Just don'do anything (including inspection of the gun by the buyer) anywhere except shop (don't do this in parking lot etc).

Another thing is when to hand over the money from buyer to seller. This should be done when you do the paperwork. Many people feel guilty to the FFL and think that money should change hands before going to the gun shop. While this might be true that the dealer is not very happy (they don't make much on PPT), the safety should prevail. Therefore I always give/take money in the gun shop. To make dealer happy (and yourself too) - just buy something small from the dealer at the same time. Like extra mag or box of ammo .

I bought two guns from private party and was also concerned in the same way. After two transactions I'd tell this is safe and easy; nothing to worry about if you do everything right.

                  Good luck with your sale.

The FFL is required to black out the sellers info and give a copy of the DROS to the buyer on request, and do the same for seller with buyers information.

Any FFL can do your PPT for you. Most they can charge you is $25 dros and $10 fee. Make sure both buyer and seller are CA residents with ID. Who pays is up to the negotiations on the price.

Arrange for you to meet the seller at your LGS and things will go smooth. Its always good to call first before you show up just to make sure. But any FFL can handle these for you. I wouldn't try to do it at a larger store because you could be waiting for a while. Smaller LGS are typically easier than the larger chains if you ask me.

Thanks for the additional info. I have more knowledge now going into it. Great great info here.

Final questions: 1-After 10day waiting period, do I call the store to see if everything's okay or not necessary?
2-What happen if the buyer failed the background check?

                            1. No

                            2. Then the firearm would have to IMMEDIATELY be returned to the seller once the dealer is notified by the DOJ of the buyers failed dros.

PC 28050 If the dealer cannot legally deliver the firearm to the purchaser or transferee or the person being loaned the firearm, the dealer shall forthwith, without waiting for the conclusion of the waiting period described in Sections 26815 and 27540, return the firearm to the transferor or seller or the person loaning the firearm.

If #2 is the case, what is the ethical amount that can be deducted from the selling price to get compensated for my time and gas/mileage?
