Is a military Leave and Earnings (LES) statement good enough to prove residency?

    The address is on it.

The reason why I ask this is because I was told by an FFL while browsing a gunstore that a US passport won't work.

What if I have a US passport and a military Leave and Earnings statement? I'm in the Army Reserves.

An LES is a government document, so it may indeed work. You may want to just ask the FFL you are going to work with for the purchase?

Why not just use vehicle registration?

I don't have a driver's license or any of that stuff, which was why I was denied the first time I tried to buy a gun -_____-

          It depends.

For the Federal requirement, if it has your name on it and the address on your 4473, then yes.

For the state requirement for handguns, it would have to have an expiraton date or a period of validity.

www.tenpercentfirearms.com was open from 2005 until 2018. I now own Westside Arms.

Are you a resident of California.

when i was on active duty i used a copy of my orders to that state. thats all i needed. i dont know how the reserves work. but maybe you need to get a drivers license first lol j/k i dont know your situation. i honestly dont think a LES will work. just get a copy of your orders.

Um I dunno I was navy so I think it was called NKO but I do know it was accessible online. Or you can just have your personnel department print it for you out of your service record.

ATF wants mil id and copy of orders. Doj requires specific residency so an LES would work or car registration

I used vehicle registration and driver's license. I'm sure that you can also use military ID, but I'd bet LES is a no-go.

When I was in the service, I received an LES every month, in every country or state I was stationed at, yet, I was a resident of California. It does have your contribution for state tax on it. Call DOJ and ask them.

Residency requirements for DOJ and tax purposes are not the same. The DOJ cares about where you live, not where you pay taxes.
