    Etiquette Regarding PPT

Hi everyone, I'm doing my first PPT and was wondering a few things about proper etiquette during a ppt at a shop, and I wanted to know your opinions. Do you guys find it annoying if:

-We do the cash exchange at your shop, like right in front of you?
-Inspection of the firearm happens right before we start the PPT?

I just want to make sure I don't annoy anyone who I want to keep doing business with. Thanks guys.

I don't mind as long as you hand me some.

-Inspection of the firearm happens right before we start the PPT?
    Hand it to me first

I would handle the transaction and inspection outside of the shop, but that's just me.
That way, if anything goes wrong (i.e. you decide not to buy) you don't waste the store's time at all.

It would be a very bad idea to inspect the gun outside the shop, unless your privacy is ensured. One paranoid eyewitness and the cops will be coming. Most shops do not mind you inspecting the gun at the shop. If the shop employees get upset, it probably is not worth doing business there. The gun should not be loaded, but carefully check, and absolutely, do not sweep anybody, otherwise, we will hear about it on calguns.

Pass the cash discreetly in an envelope.

I would rather you did the inspection inside.
My neighbors all know what I do and are really cool but you only have to scare one little old lady to make that all change.

Besides, untill you have a deal there is nothing for me to do. That means you cant waist my time looking at your gun inside.

            ^ This.

I would prefer that the firearm in question be handed to me as the first order of business (preferably in some sort of container) so that I can be sure it is safe.

I trust my safety to myself, and no one else.

How you decide to pay for the item is not my business, so I'm really not concerned with how you handle the money angle.

Another thing I have always done that has not ben mentioned yet is to go inside the store first and let them know that You are bringing in a firearm to do a PPT. If not cassed, make sure the action is open and of coarse follow the other safety recomendations mentioned above.

i think all inspections and dealings should be done before entering store

also buyer bring a ca lock and give it to the seller to give back to you with the gun in the store

have him write a receipt for the lock

Does this actually work? I see this recommended all the time, but I have had several PPTs and none of the FFLs I've gone to will accept a hand written receipt. I'm curious if anyone has done this first hand and had their FFL accept it? You would think a note on a napkin should be sufficient....

As for inspections, I'm glad to hear that FFLs encourage doing it inside the store. For some reason, I felt that they discouraged PPTs so I try to set them up to be as quick and efficient as possible. I've been trying to get everything squared away so all I have to do it show up, fill out the paperwork, and then go. Even then, sometimes it can take over an hour!

If an FFL is ok with us bringing in the firearm and doing the inspection and transfer in their store, that would be a better way to do it.

I agree, don't want to be scaring people in the parking lot beforehand!

Turner's was cool with the Inspection inside the store. But they did not want to have anything to do with the money changing hands. So the guy there made us leave the shop for the money to exchange hands. This happened as he processed our DROS paperwork.

Well it can usually be done pretty dicreetly outside the shop or call ahead to let them know that you have a long gun or several pistols if its a collection. If its a parking lot around the gunshop they people should be used to seeing weapons around the area.
$$ should be exchanged outside in my opinion....

There is no reason to force the people to leave the store in order to exchange the money.

If you are exchanging a few hundred dollars, you might not worry too much about it. But when you are getting $1,500 cash, you want to make sure you count all of it. Doing this outside, in the open, in the parking lot, isn't the most comfortable place to do it.
