Re-do DROS. How hard can it be?

Hi All,

Well, I received a phone call this evening from Val.....Arms in Milpitas stating I had to wait an additional 10 days (20 total) before I could take possession of my firearm. Apparently the DOJ contacted them inquiring why no background checks were performed for the past two weeks. All of the DROS had to be re-done and customers were contacted about the situation. Has anyone else run into this type of problem? This is a first for me and I'm a bit disappointed, but there's nothing I can do but continue to wait. Oh well....

Someone is not doing its work. Either Val did not send the dros request in or doj was on vacation. The good thing here is they didnt ask for another $25. I feel you buddy.

Yeah, Valkyrie Arms called me today also. Im pretty upset about it, well more like disappointed. When I asked why my DROS didnt go through, they said something to the effect of the system being down or something and that it happened to a bunch of other people.

That is interesting. I am not sure how when I submit DROS and I print out a DROS form with a DROS number and date and time of start how a DROS would not start.

Does Valkyrie have a 10 or an 11 day wait? Do they submit DROS and have you sign it right then and there or do they submit it later in the day after you have left?

I would like to take them at face value on this, but I have never heard of such a thing.

I did discover my employee was hitting the preview button for some crazy reason once and we got that correctly quite quickly. It shows a DROS form, but the DROS number and date and time are not there. So she was manually writing them in. I quickly discovered it and corrected her. So we had one or maybe two customers who I started their DROS a day or two later.

Dros was definitely not down. They may have not had access to it by their network/isp being down or not paying their.bill but if they are telling you Dros was down they are lying.

So looks like theyre trying to cover up for the person that f**ked up the paperwork then. I understand they hired a few new employees and if they messed up I rather be told that they did something wrong versus straight out lied to.

I remember I had a customer that bought a 92FS, we did all the paperwork but somehow I forgot to run a DROS. Just didn't do it, stuck the gun with the 4473 in the back, no DROS. Customer comes to pick it up and I turn blue. That was one of my worst memories here, lol. I apologized profusely, submitted a DROS, through in some ammo and apologized again. So long story short, **** happens but in my case it is very rare. Like once in over 3500 sales.

I now recall what was said before I did the PPT there. I called them on a Saturday inquiring about doing the transfer there. The person who answered the phone (a woman) stated she thought the "system was down" and had to verify with someone else. The phone was handed to a different person (a guy) and he stated "no problem" and verified it would be $35. I went there the following day which was Sunday and started the paperwork with the other party. When we finished, both of us asked if we could have a copy of the DROS. Three people behind the counter said everything that was needed for pickup was on the receipt. Once again we asked for a copy of the DROS and they acted like we were asking them for money or something. I believe they performed DROS knowing there were potential issues or delays. Instead of being honest and up front, they most likely kept this information from their customers. Looks like 30 plus people got taken for a longer ride (20 days) instead of 10.

Did they swipe your CDL / ID's and did you sign and put a thumbprint on the back of the dros? Something isn't adding up...

They made a copy of everything I brought in. I did not see them swipe my CDL and I was told that I was going to give my thumbprint when I went to pick it up, which I thought was weird because I remember giving my thumbprint when I started DROS for some other purchases. Actually, all i did fill out was the 4473...

Sounds to me like they either knew they had a problem or they didn't have an internet connection or they didn't have the correct person doing the paperwork. I have not seen a time when the DROS system was actually down during normal hours. All that said, I guess they could of had a network problem, took the info to be keyed in later ( PITA but legal ) and then forgot they had pending transactions to run when they got their network back. Because keying in the info takes some time, perhaps they did it as they got around to it.

Best course of action is always to admit you had a problem and not try and cover it up by laying blame elsewhere. 9 times outta 10, that backfires.

It sounds to me like your DROS didn't get started for some reason. The only time we don't start DROS, have you sign the DROS form, and thumbprint it is if our Internet is down (but we have aircards to prevent that as well). When that happens, we tell you straight up. Otherwise we always tell you the exact date and time you can return.

They knew they had no access, and failed to tell you. Most likely they failed to pay their DROS bill to the state and were shut out of the system until they paid their bill.

If they truly did a DROS in good faith they would have swiped your card as usual, and obtained all needed signatures and the thumbprint.

Did they have you sign and date the 4473 when you were there the first time or did they have you leave those boxes blank???

I signed and dated the 4473 when i first came in. They did not have me come in the second time, they just said that they resubmitted it.
