Maybe. But I would be surprised if it is that many. I could be completely wrong however. I do know that California is a huge market for guns. What really surprises me is that the major manufacturers don't seem to even care about getting guns on the California Roster.

Check with CZ Custom http://czcustom.com/cz-75-9mm_barrel...-extended.aspx, they have a 6" barrel that could be extended or maybe they can custom one.

Great idea. The other thing I was thinking while looking at the Phantom is I could design something that attaches to the rail with a tool that would extend the length of the pistol out past 10.5". Or put a single shot magazine with an extended base plate. So a 6" barrel would definitely get me started.

A single shot mag with extended floor plate seems like an easy way.

I see I am late to the party, but I might as well throw in my .02. I've made a number of extended barrels for some of the local FFLS, and for the most part it is very easy. I should say, for a machinist, it is easy. I have a few fixtures I've made to keep the extensions concentric and colinear, and either TIG or MIG them on for permanence. The FFL usually has a "buy back" program or "core charge" to exchange the single shot parts for standard ones.

I have a quick question. Based on other posts the fact that a SSE is done by using drop in replacement parts allows these conversions to be completed by 01FFL's. That all makes sense to me. But in reference to TenPercentFirearms post above where the extended barrels were made by welding pipe from a home improvement store to a spare barrel. Would this be considered manufacturing, and would it require an 07FFL and the parts serial numbered? I would like to do some SSE's but I am an 01FFL and would like to make sure that I am compliant. And as it was mentioned before, finding extended barrels for many of these guns is not an easy task.

Heck, Just Cannabilize an LCP for the barrel. You'll make it up in no time and be in the green before you know what hit you. Sac Black has it right on this one!
