OBTAINING A HOMEBASED FFL LICENSE

I have a question when you apply for a FFL license. I know that one of the requirements is to get a business license from the city you live in. My question is does the chief of police have a saying to whether or not the city can issue you the business license? Reason being is I went to my city hall to ask if they can issue me the license for a homebased business and the lady told me she didnt know if they can issue me one that first she had to find out with the chief of police and with the zoning.

They can give the decision makers an opinion which may or may not have an impact on the issuance of a business license. Some local governments may require a sign-off by the CLEO.

Your business license must state that it is a retail firearms business. They are typically issues by the local LE.

In my case, it had to be ok'd with local law enforcement and zoning dept. before they would issue the lic. Biggest problem I had was with the city issuing a lic. that had "Valid for retail sale of Firearms" on it. Took a few trys before everything was right. Good luck with your new business.

This. Some cities will allow home based businesses, others will not so it must be in unincorporated county land.

I also seem to remember that when I renewed my FFL, I had to send a copy of the renewal paperwork to the local LE per the instructions.

That is sending in for notificaton, not asking for approval.

No word yet, I figured you would just notify the police dept. about the business not that they had to ok it. why should they decide what businesses come in the city, shouldn't they be there just to protect and serve

Yes, unless their city council or board of supervisors assigns the the administrative duty of investigating and approval FFL business permits.
