    ID for Handgun Purchase

I moved and my Drivers License shows my old address. I changed my address with the DMV but they don't send out a new card with the new address.
I have a lease document and utility bills at the new address.
What forum of ID can I use?
    TIA

you need a government-issued document of some sort that has your name and current address on it. That would satisy federal law.

YOur lease document and utility bills would satisfy CA Law, but not federal law (unless your utility bill was from a .gov entity, like a water bill from the city).

Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?

Cdl and utility bill- I had the same issue for three years. When your car registration changes that will work also.

This will not satisfy the federal requirement of a government issued document for an ID/DL address that does not match the 4473 address. The utility bill satisfies the state requirement for secondary proof of residency on a handgun purchase, but not the federal requirement.

Vehicle registration satisfies both. Your utility bill combined with a DMV print out would satisfy both. The stupid DMV brown card won't work according to my ATF agent because it is hand written and could be done by anyone.

Unless the utility bill is from a municipally or county owned entity...such as a county owned water district

As for the "brown card", your agent is simply wrong...you may want to call BATFE and get a ruling...it's a government issued document, plain and simple. As long as it has the date stamp on it, it's good to go. Would it matter if I wandered into the DMV and wrote down my address as 1600 Pennsylvania Ave??? No, DMV would issue me a license with that address on it, as long as I had a city and zip in CA. So his argument that "they can write in whatever they want" doesn't hold water.

Initially I was told that brown card with stamp was legit. Amy Johnson regional supervisor says no. That is good enough for me. Get a DMV print out.

At the regional meet and greet with the ATF they again reiterated that the brown card was not a valid proof of correct address.

Does the DMV printout IDs/DLs and give them to you right there? Mine usually get mailed to me so if I put a fraudulent address, I wouldn't get my ID/DL unless I was able to check the mail there.

And apparently their argument is holding water since it is now 3 FFLs to 1 that have been told to not to accept it.

I am going to ask my auditor the next time I see her about the new ALS hunting/fishing license system from the CA DFG. I still think it is editable by me at the shop, but you know it is pretty darn close to a government issued license now that I have to print it out instead of writing it in.

Typed up a letter to ATF for a ruling...I'll put it in the mail tomorrow. I don't like conflicts in information so hopefully I can get a definitive written answer.
