1 Gun every 30 day rule

My question is, from what day do they start the 30 day count down from, the day you purchase a handgun and start DROS or on the10th day when you pick it up. Example, I purchase a handgun on 4/24 and pick it up on 5/4, do I have to wait 30 days from the 24th or the 4th.

    Thanks,

It's the day you started the DROS on the first gun.

day you purchase....so 20 days after you pick up, you can start the DROS again....unless you have an 03FFL and a COE, then the 1in30 rule doesn't apply.

Most civilization is based on cowardice. It's so easy to civilize by teaching cowardice. You water down the standards which would lead to bravery. You restrain the will. You regulate the appetites. You fence in the horizons. You make a law for every movement. You deny the existence of chaos. You teach even the children to breathe slowly. You tame.

I believe the time also counts. The DROS is date and time stamped. So, you'd need to wait until 720 hrs has passed before submitting another handgun DROS.

Correct, this is something I had confirmed with DOJ as well (that the time matters).

Thanks for the answers. So, I DROS'd on 4/24, so I can purchase another one on 5/25, just to be safe.

So, if today is day 19 since I started DROS on my last gun purchase, I can actually purchase and start DROS on a new gun tomorrow? Can I get an amen on that please? I want to purchase a new one on sale this week.

              thx,

Nope, the post you quoted noted "20 days after you pickup" -- sorry, not 20 days after you start DROS. However, you can purchase the new one that's on sale this week if the shop will hold it for you to start the DROS in 11-12 days (depending on timing)..

No, that would be 20 days. You still have another 10 to wait.

                  Day 1: DROS
                  Day 10: Pickup
                  Wait 20 more days
                  Day 30: New DROS

Edit: ugimports beat me to it.

The dealer may still let you purchase the firearm while it's on sale but you can't start the second DROS until 30+ days.

I do the same line of thinking. Remember at the end of some months you have 31 days so going from the 15th to the 15th is 31 days.

Tomorrow is my "extra" day, I got my Kimber on 4/27 so this weekend I plan to shop. :-)

Heck, just do PPT's and you don't have to worry about the 30 days.

I agree, but when a PPT seller is asking $500 and the gun sells new for $459, I'll pass. Even if they ask $500 for a gun that retails at $579, the FFL charges $75 or so for their time. I'm saving a few bucks on tax but overall it's better to have a new gun with a warranty, etc. PPT deals are rare unless you are willing to spend the extra money to get the exact gun they have and the extra money is worth it to you.

If an FFL is charging $75 for a PPT you need to slap him down with some PC code. PPTs are no more than $35, ever.
