I believe that you also need the CA DOJ COE in order to receive the firearms, so the cost goes up, but it is still the way to go since then you are exempt from the 1 gun per month for modern handguns, no waiting period for C&R handguns and can directly receive C&R long guns.

nope, you don't need the COE to receive 50+ year-old long guns directly to your house from anybody other than a CA dealer.

yes, the COE (along with the C&R) allows you to to cash-and-carry all C&R firearms, hanguns and long guns, even those that are listed C&R and not 50-years old. You have to DROS it, but can cash-and-carry immediatety afterwards. And yes, you are exempt from the 1-handgun-a-month law for all handgun transfers, C&R and Modern. And in 2011, it will exempt you from the hangun ammo mail order ban as well.

But it isn't needed to receive 50+ year-old C&R long guns.
