    CHP DROS in 5 minutes

How is it that the CHP can learn everything they need to know about me in 5 minutes but the DOJ needs to make me sit and wait for 10 days. It makes no sense and is cruel and unusual punnishment.

The "right to bear arms" is not a right if we allow others to take it and mess with it.

    Kinda frustrating!!!

Because they nominally serve two different purposes. The prohibited-persons background check is just that.

The waiting period is a supposed to make sure you're not a hothead that will use the gun on yourself or another person in the heat of passion. It's somewhat harder to make the point that this seriously infringes our rights...

The real question is - I already own dozens of guns - why do I need to wait 10 days for any purchases beyond the first one?

Our politicians in Sacramento hang on to the "cooling off" theory in defense of the 10 day waiting period. The "time to search" theory does not work anymore and became very obvious with the introduction of NICS.

Suicidal people will always find a way regardless. Years back, a woman purchased a blackpowder revolver from Reed's and offed herself up on Skyline. Just this morning, I walked up on a collection of used spray paint cans in a area where teens congregate. Whether it is quickly like that woman, knives, overdose, or slowly like sniffers; they will always find a way. We cannot rubberize and pad the entire state, and put straight jackets on everyone in the name of saving a few life's. But we have some stupid politicians in Sac that believe we can.

This has always been my confusion. Once you own a gun, there is no need for the 10 day waiting period (not that there ever was a reason, but this defeats the purpose of their reasoning).

If they are so worried about people hurting themselves or others they should make every car buyer wait and never sell cigarettes. When cigarettes are used as recommended you DIE. The odds of developing emphysema are 100%.
How can they justify keeping them legal. Oh thats right they tax smokers to death and do nothing to help them get off the habit. Don't want to lose that revenue.

There are many wrongs to right in this State, I am thankful we have a CGF, and the caliber of folks that make up Calguns. You have every reason you need to donate to the foundation, and assure we are doing all we can to support them.

Yeah and they're spending $50 million on a suicide barrier for the golden gate bridge. WTF? They've already spent tens of millions of $ just researching it... Give me a break.

It's all about revenue, just do the math. Say on any given day 2000 firearms are sold in California multiply by $25.00 = $50,000.

The real issue is harassment. If they make it difficult or annoying enough people will not buy firearms. Once enough people get used to not having a firearm, then it is much easier to completely ban firearms. You can also "ban" firearms by making it difficult to buy a firearm so that no one buys one. Reducing the number of firearms dealers also helps their cause.

Firearms from out of state require a letter if sent from a FFL, but not from a private party. Clearly, this means that they don't care about firearms coming in from out of state, they just want to make it more difficult for business to operate and it is working. Even though it is easy, some out of state FFLs refuse to ship to CA. Others will do it, but charge a fee, even though it is free to them to print the letter (excluding ink and paper).
                        Kemasa.
False signature edited by Paul: Banned from the FFL forum due to being rude and insulting. Doing this continues his abuse.

Don't tell someone to read the rules he wrote or tell him that he is wrong.

I remember a couple years ago, the lawmakers were discussing installing the suicide barrier on the golden gate AND AT THE SAME TIME discussing legalizing assisted suicide.

Also, the whole "cooling off period" is B.S. Especially once they know I've already purchased guns.

If they wanted more revenue they should get rid of the wait so people can buy more guns in shorter periods of time

Although I'm not fond of the fee - it's not too onerous, plus I don't see a time when they would eliminate registration, and as longs as that's the case they will charge a fee to offset the resources required.

I do wonder how many guns per day are registered in The Golden State, I doubt it's 2,000, but we can always hope!
