    FFL and DOJ Certified Instructor

How many of you FFLs are also DOJ Certified Instructors so you can administer the HSC testing? I am very close to getting my CFD and am worried about losing sales if I have to send clients away to get their HSC.

Yup... only way to fly, got mine way back in 2003 (I think)... anyway, you don't want to pass getting Certification and then miss-out on all the great entertainment. The 25$ is NOT funny, but once you get past that... the test is a real hoot for the customers and good for a lot of laughs!

I got mine... My Rangemaster certification at work exempted me from any of the process, so I'm not sure what it takes to get it.. I still need to get the HSC testing packet.. I've procrastinated it, as most of my customers have the cards already.. I've had a few that asked, but got their HSC before they came up.. What does the testing materials and cards cost these days?

I am as well. My background as a federal agent as well as federal instructor made it a moot point for jumping through all the hoops in CA. The just issued the instructor credential...thankfully.

Yeah, I am thinking it would be foolish not to get it.

Do you really need the video and study guides?

I got the study guides but not the video. Study guides have come in handy on several occasions.

If you are not a HSC Instructor, then you can not sell handguns since you have to do the safety demonstration. Whether you get the certificates is another question, but it is useful.

The first video is free and they have a lot of them :-).

Would have been nice to know that ahead of time, but what do you expect from California Government. Anyone know a cheap and fast way to get certified?

I was able to use one of the instructors nearby and he set up a one on one a couple of days after my first call for 50.00 or 75.00. Took about two hours to go over all the info and run through the drills with each type of handgun, semi-auto, revolver and single action revolver. Not difficult but there's a certain way they want the checks done and the paperwork completed for the HSC's.

If you are an NRA Certified Instructor, that's all you need to qualify. As others have said, you really need your HSC Instructor certification.

I received an exemption with my NRA Coach Card.

I do not do the HSC because I don't have the time to deal with it.

I obtained a DOJI card so I could administer the handgun safety test.
