Sounds like he needs to get his priorities straight, and deal with his dui
before impulsively buying/canceling/buying firearms. Start with sobriety.

Restocking fees do create angry customers. Better to tell the customer up front. If we dros this and you are denied/delayed and it is undeliverable I will charge you for my time. If you are ok with that so am I. We had one bag area gentleman call us asking if we would release a handgun if he got delayed. He said he had been calling shops all day and no one would do it. Be wanted a definite answer. We told him no. Some customers just want to get over on people. They know they have a background issue..

True. We deliver on undetermined. There is no way I can tell if someone should be denied their 2A if DOJ and ATF can’t. It’s their system.

Occasionally we get denials from someone who was arrested and convicted of drug stuff as a juvenile and had no idea they were prohibited when buying. Now they’re 28 and may regain their rights in 2 years. I want them to come back when they’re eligible! So, depending on the situation, if they share that with me, I’ll eat the restocking fee knowing this guy had a childhood non violent mishap and is probably now, a whole different person and will end up being a great customer for years to come. It’s all situational.

What do you all suggest than instead of a restocking fee to avoid the problems? Obviously nobody wants angry customers but in some circumstances I don't see a way around not doing a restocking fee.

I'm amazed that some FFL's don't have clearly stated policies on what happens in the event of things that cause restocking fees or abandoned guns or ammunition. I'm sure you've all seen situations like this I've seen people return after 2-3 years wanting to pick up a gun they ordered or even DROSed.

I believe it depends on circumstances I know 2 people with DUI's in their past that own guns I think one has a CCW.

The one I've been seeing get people is the misdemeanor domestic violence. One recent case I saw in the shop was a female that had an ancient DV case from the east coast and she got denied. I reminded her she was asked about stuff like that before she filled out the 4473 and signed the DROS she was apologetic and didn't complain about the 25% restocking fee.
